Around Pune
From Pune, around 50-60 kilometers away is Karla and Bhaja. These have rock-cut caves, carved by Buddhists way back into history around 1st or 2nd century B.C. Viharas (dwelling caves) and Chaityas (chapels) in caves takes you back to the glorious past of Buddhist Monks and culture!
Forts Lohagad and Visapur: These places are just 52 kilometers from the town Pune on to a hill. These forts are one of the finest examples of man’s artistry and skills. These forts become more special as they have been built way back in 18th century. A Ridge that is one kilometer in length divides them and is quite suitable for trekking.
Shivneri: This place is just 94.5 kilometers away from Pune birthplace of great Shivaji! The special things about Shivneri are that this fort is mosque having duplet minarets attached with a wonderful architecture!
Sinhagad : This place has been named after the great warrior Shivaji-Tanaji Malusare, this fortress’s height is 1290 meters. This place is very proximate from the city that is just 25 kilometers. Long back (300 years), Maratha fighters along with their army had attacked Bijapur citadel around midnight and that also with the help of ropes and ghorpuds. This was one of the rare things happened mentioned in the history.
The Samadhi to Tanaji Malusare is the remembrance of Maratha class, dare and phenomenal art of war. When the news spread that Tanaji passed away, Shivaji said,” We have gained the fort but lost the lion". Thereafter this fort was called Singhgad (fort of lion).

Temples
Dehu - Alandi -In the 17th century, Dehu was endowed with the birth of great preacher of peace and harmony, popularly known as Tukaram. Dehu is located on the banks of Indrayani River. Alandi is another pilgrim place 22 kilometers from Pune. This was the place where Samadhi of great poet Dnyaneshwar is located.
