Kotilinga Temple

Kotilinga Temple, also known as Kotilingeshwara Temple, is a major crowd puller in Kolar district of Karnataka. It is an astounding Hindu temple located in Kammasandra village in Kolar. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is different from the other Shiva temples. It is installed with the largest Shivalinga that can be seen from a great distance in the locale.

It Is Known For:-
1)    Kotilingeshwara Temple is an eminent tourist cum pilgrimage destination in Karnataka. It is an abode to one crore Shivalingas. As per the name, ‘Koti’ means ‘crore’ and people can witness many Shivalingas all over the temple premises.

2)    It houses the tallest Shivalinga that has a height of 108 feet. The idol of Nandi with a height of 36 foot can also be seen facing the Shivalinga.

3)    In the year 1980, the first Shivalinga was installed and till date, the custom continues. Devotees install the Shivalingas that are worshiped on a daily basis using the holy chants, incense sticks, sandalwood, and holy water.

4)    There are temples of other Hindu religious figurines located here as well. The temple of the Hindu Holy Trinity, Lord Venkataramani Swami, Sri Rama, Lord Anjaneya etc. are frequently visited.

The festival of Maha Shivaratri is celebrated here with a great pomp. The whole temple is festooned exquisitely and devotees flock on an extensive scale. Throughout the day, special prayers are conducted and alms are distributed among all.

Kolar district can be reached by the express trains, flights, and state-run buses/private vehicles from the rest of Karnataka. Traveling within the city can be done by hiring the service of the local transit like the bus, autos, and sharing shuttles.
