The museum is open for visitation from 10 am to 4: 30 pm throughout the week except on Friday. The entry fee is rupees 3 for adults and remains open for free entry on Monday.

History

 

The museum was established in the year 1915 and houses rare manuscripts, coins, paintings, sculptures and inscription which date back to the 5th and 7th century. The most prized possession of the museum is the statues of god and goddesses which were recovered from the various ruins.

 

Architecture

 

The gallaries of the museum is filled with the sculpture and architectural fragment of the 8th century of the city of chandravati and statues and epigraphs from jhalrapatan region.

 

Festival

 

The Most famous festival celebrated in Jhalwar is Kartik Purnima. Chandrabhaga is the place where cattle fair is being organized every year in the month of Kartik, usually in Oct-Nov. On this full moon night, devotees take a holy dip in the river, which is followed by Deep Daan and various cultural programs. Yet another festival for women is Gangaur is held in honour of Goddess Parvati. Women pray for their husband’s life and unmarried women praise the goddess for a good groom.

The nearest railway station is morak railway station which is about 28km from Jhalawar Govt museum while the nearest airport is Kota airport which is just 71 km away, tourist can also avail public transport to reach this destination.

• Chandrabhaga temples- this splendid temple from 7th century with its complexly carved pillars and arched walkways is known for its exquisite workmanship. Chandrabhaga temple is also known Chandramaulishwar Mahadev temple by the locals of the region.

• Gagron Fort- this fabulous fort is worth a visit by any traveler. It overlooks the rivers and offers spectacular views and great place to walk in with plenty to see. Founded in the 7thcentury this fort is surrounded by water on the three sides and is an ideal example of a Jaldurg.

• Rain Basera- this wooden hut on the banks of the Kishan Sagar was originally built by forest research institute of Dehradun. This beautiful temple was brought by Maharaja Rajendra Singh from an exhibition in Lucknow.
