Gangasagar Lake

Gangasagar Lake is a well-known tourist site in Raigad. It is an ancient man-made lake that was built near the massive fort of Raigad. This lake was constructed for the purpose to satisfy the quench of thirst of the nearby villagers and members of the royal clan. It is said that waters were brought from the Holy Ganges to fill this pond.

1)    Gangasagar Lake is an artificial lake. It was constructed back in the period of Chhatrapati Shivaji’s crowning.

2)    The chamber of the queen is located close to this lake and provides a clear view of the entire lake.

3)    Due to the advancements, the canal system has been introduced and that provides water for various purposes to the dwellers, as well as the resorts, located in the nearby region.

4)    It also serves as a great picnic spot for visitors that want to spend some time in calm surroundings.
