Ladakhi Winters takes you to the heart of calm and serene Ladakh in the non touristy season. Experience below zero degree temperatures, frozen lakes and rivers . Drive up till the highest motorable road in the world and then to the Stok Festival. Also visit the Likir Monastery followed by a trek in the Sham Valley with chances of spotting some of the most beautiful wildlife creatures.
Day 1 : Arrival Leh
Arrival Leh Kushok Bakula Airport (This must be one of the MOST SENSATIONAL FLIGHTS IN THE WORLD. On a clear day from one side of the aircraft can be seen in the distance the peaks of K2, Nanga Parbat, Gasherbrum and on the other side of the aircraft, so close that you feel you could reach out and touch it, is the Nun Kun massif.) Upon arrival you will met by our representative and transfer to Hotel for Check in. Complete day for rest and leisure to acclimatize followed by Welcome tea or Coffee at the Hotel. Evening Visit to Leh Market & Shanti Stupa. Dinner & Overnight at Hotel.
Day 2 : Leh - Excursion To Monasteries
Post Breakfast we proceed for Indus Valley Monastery tour including SHEY PALACE, The ancient capital of ladakh, thiksey an impressive complex rising tier upon tier on a hill above the village, hemis gompa, the largest monastic foundation of drukpa kagyu order of tibetan buddhism, sindhu ghat & stok palace. dinner & overnight at the hotel
Day 3 : Leh - Excursion To Sham Valley
Post breakfast we drive downstream along the river indus on leh – kargil highway. And start our sightseeing with hall of fame near leh is worth a visit for every indian. It is a glorious museum constructed by indian army. Gurudwara patthar sahib nestled deep in the himalayas, which was built by the lamas of leh in 1517 to commemorate the visit of guru nanak dev. A drive of another 4 km will take us to magnetic hill which defies the law of gravity. Further driving through a picturesque landscape we reach the confluence of the indus and zanskar river 4 km before nimmu village, just before saspul a road to the right takes you for your visit to the likir monastery. The name likir derives from the word lukhgil (coiled snake) as the site appears to be encircled by two great serpent spirits – nanda and taksako. Likir is one of the most active monasteries in the region. As you drive up to the monastery a recently installed colossal gilded image of the maitreya out in the open is one of the most impressive sights in ladakh. On your return drive to leh you first visit the alchi gompa. The complex of temples located within the village is the most celebrated of ladakh’s monasteries and dates back to the 11th century. After visiting above places we drive back to hotel for overnight stay.
Day 4 : Leh – Likir 53 Kms 1-2 Hours Drive and trek to Yangthang (Altitude 3700Mtrs. 5 Hours Trek)
After breakfast leave for Likir on arrival at Likir and start the Easy Trek towards Yangthang, Likir is from where we start the walk which goes parallel to a motorable road that ascends to Phobe La (Altitude 3580 Mtrs.). From the pass we leave the road to take a descending track leading to a gorge which finally takes us back on the road. At this point one can view Sumdo village with its few houses. we leave the road again to climb up to Chagatse La (Altitude 3630 Mtrs.). If one is lucky , one can have a chance to view the wildlife. Also view the most beautiful landscape. A great photo opportunity . Pickup from Yangthang returm back to Leh. Overnight at Leh
Day 5 : Leh - Excursion To Khardung La Top
Post Breakfast we drive to KHARDUNG LA (THE HIGHEST MOTORABLE ROAD IN THE WORLD) AT 5,602 M / 18,390 FT, around 39 km from Leh. From the pass, one can see all the way south over the Indus valley to seemingly endless peaks and ridges of the Zanskar range, and north to the giants of the Saser massif. The views from the top of the pass are amazing. With the right weather, this has got to be one of the great scenic drives in the world: the views, the mountains in the distance, the hairpin bends and the photo opportunities as clouds move in and out, dappling the land below and painting it in varying intensities of colour. Return to the hotel on time for lunch. In the afternoon you can stroll around the market place for some last minute souvenir shopping. Dinner & Overnight at hotel.
Day 6 : Leh - Excursion To Pangong Lake - 14,000 FT. (140 KMS/ 4-5 hrs One Way)
After an early breakfast we leave for pangong lake through changla pass 5486 mtrs. The long easy ascent takes you to changla pass through its winding roads passing through sakti village. Stop at the changla pass for a quick photograph session and drive down to the village of tangtse, where you can relax for a cup of tea. Leaving tangtse for pangong you pass through few small villages of changthang and finally you can have a sudden view of the pangong lake situated at 14,000 feet (4,267 m). This famous blue brackish lake of pangong is 5/6 kms wide and over 133 kms long with half of its running the other side of the “INDO CHINA BORDER”. One rarely feels so close to nature and environment and the scenery is unforgettable. After spending some time at pangong we drive back to leh in the late afternoon. Dinner & overnight at hotel in leh.
Day 7 : Leh Depart
Alas your beautiful trip ends today. Take back home some wonderful memories.
