Vindhyagiri Hill

Also known by the name of Gommateshwara Hill, Vidhyagiri Hill is a famous pilgrimage site in Shravanabelagola town in Hassan district of Karnataka. This hill is said to be the place where the Jain Lord Swami Bahubali meditated for a long period of time. His huge statue has also been installed at top the hill with a temple dedicated to him. It is visited by the lots of Jain pilgrims from the different parts of India.

It Is Known For:-
1)    Vindhyagiri Hill is a famous pilgrimage site for the followers of Jainism.

2)    It is situated 3,288 feet above the sea level and 438 feet above the ground.

3)    It houses a large structure of Swami Bahubali, the Jain God who meditated on the hill. His idol is one of the free-standing structures in India.

4)    It was built by the minister and commander of the Ganga dynasty, Chavundaraya. The idol is 58 feet high.

5)     The hill is carved and stairs have been constructed for the devotees to reach the hill.

6)    Parayushan and Mahamastakabhisheka are the sacred festivals that are celebrated here on a huge scale.

Best Time To Visit:-
Vindhyagiri Hill is a huge crowd puller in Shravanbelagola (Hassan, Karnataka). It can be visited during any season of the year, however, to make the visit even rewarding one can mark the attendance on the occasion of Mahamastakabhisheka and Parayushana.

Commuting within the township can be done via local taxis, sharing shuttles, and bullock cart/taanga in remote areas.
