Day wise Itinerary

  • Day 1 : Arrival in Paro (Altitude: 2,300m | Drive: 20 min | Distance: 10 km)

Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our local representative. Begin your journey with a visit to the National Museum, housed in the historic Ta Dzong, a 17th-century watchtower that once protected Paro Rinpung Dzong. The museum showcases an impressive collection of ancient stamps and artifacts, offering insight into Bhutanese history. Next, explore Paro Rinpung Dzong, an architectural and cultural icon originally built in the 17th century by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyel. Admire the dzong’s intricate structures, the monastic prayer hall, and the old cantilever bridge. Conclude the day with a stroll through Paro town, browsing local shops and soaking in the authentic Bhutanese atmosphere. Overnight at a hotel in Paro.

  • Day 2 : Trek to Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest) (Altitude: 3,150m | Hike: 4–5 hrs | Distance: 7 km | Ascent/Descent: 600 m)

After breakfast, drive 15 minutes to the starting point of the hike to Taktsang Monastery, famously known as the Tiger’s Nest. Perched 800 meters above the Paro Valley at an elevation of 2,950 meters, this iconic monastery was founded in 1692 AD over the cave where Guru Rimpoche and Khandro Yeshi Tshogyal meditated. The hike passes through pine forests, waterfalls, and prayer-flag lined trails, offering breathtaking valley views. On the descent, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest temples. Return to Paro for overnight at the hotel.

  • Day 3 : Trek from Domchena to Jangchulakha (Altitude: 3,780m | Trek: 6–7 hrs | Distance: 15 km | Ascent: 1,100 m)

Drive past the National Museum and through apple orchards and small farming settlements to Damchena village, where the trek begins. Hike toward Jele Dzong, situated at 3,490 meters on a whaleback ridge. Although mostly in ruins, the dzong houses a small Lhakhang with a Buddha Sakyamuni statue. On clear days, enjoy panoramic views of Paro town, the valley, and Mount Jomolhari. Continue through dense alpine forests and rhododendron groves, passing yak herders, and reach Jangchulakha, where your campsite awaits.

  • Day 4 : Jangchulakha to Jimilangtsho Lake (Altitude: 3,880m | Trek: 4–5 hrs | Distance: 11 km | Ascent: 400 m | Descent: 300 m)

Trek uphill through juniper trees and dwarf rhododendrons, following the ridge with magnificent views of Thimphu and Paro mountain ranges, including snow-capped Jichu Drake. Descend toward Jimilangtsho Lake, a serene alpine lake known for its large trout. Camp overnight near the lake, enjoying the peaceful high-altitude environment.

  • Day 5 : Jimilangtsho Lake to Simokota (Altitude: 4,110m | Trek: 4–5 hrs | Distance: 12 km | Ascent: 270 m)

The trail winds through dwarf rhododendron forests, past Janetsho Lake, and continues through yak herders’ pastures, providing an authentic glimpse into local highland life. Cross a final spur to reach Simokota Tsho Lake, where the campsite is set for the night. Enjoy the tranquility of this remote alpine area and stunning Himalayan views.

  • Day 6 : Simokota to Phajoding and Thimphu (Altitude: 2,300m | Trek: 6–7 hrs | Distance: 14 km | Ascent: 100 m | Descent: 1,200 m)

Start with a gradual climb to a saddle at 4,150 meters, where you may enjoy views of Mount Gangkar Puensum and surrounding peaks, weather permitting. Descend to a small lake and climb toward Phume La Pass (4,210m), adorned with fluttering prayer flags and panoramic views of Thimphu Valley below. Continue downhill through juniper and blue pine forests to reach Sangaygang, the roadhead near Thimphu. Overnight at a hotel in Thimphu.

  • Day 7 : Explore Thimphu and Drive to Paro (Altitude: 2,300m | Drive: 1 hr | Distance: 70 km | Ascent: 900 m)

Explore Thimphu city, beginning with the Buddha Dordenma statue, which overlooks the valley. Visit the Memorial Chorten, honoring the third king, then continue to the Painting School, where traditional arts and crafts are taught. Explore the weekend market and witness a match at the Changlimithang Archery Ground, Bhutan’s national sport. In the afternoon, drive to Paro, enjoy dinner at a local farmhouse featuring Ara (traditional alcohol), and try a hot stone bath. Overnight at the hotel.
