High on a hilltop just outside Udaipur lies this dramatic 18th century palace .Maharana Sajjan Singh of Mewar started construction of Sajjangarh Palace and Maharana Fatehsingh completed it in 1899. This also known as Monsoon Palace,it was a summer retreat of the Maharajas.
The fort is nestled on a hill and overlooks all the picturesque lakes Pichola. The palace was equipped with an ingenious rainwater collection system, essential in the dry desert conditions of the region. You will find here an innovative way of collecting rain water for consumption all year around.
The smooth shining walls of lime plaster, marble pillars engraved with leaves and flowers; the Jharokhas, domes and fountains are living evidences of art and architecture of this region. The illuminated palace during night looks as if castle of fairies is floating in the sky.
