3 Days Simien Mountains Trekking Tour

Gondar → Simien Mountains National Park → Sankaber → Gich

Overnight altitude: 3,600 meters

After breakfast, drive from Gondar to Sankaber with a short stop at the park headquarters for trekking permits and scout arrangements. The trek begins through beautiful highland grasslands, cultivated fields, and heather forests along the dramatic escarpment of the Simien Mountains.

Along the trail, encounter large groups of endemic Gelada baboons grazing peacefully across the cliffs. Continue hiking to the spectacular viewpoint of Jinbar Falls, where the waterfall plunges hundreds of meters into a deep gorge.

Later in the afternoon, arrive at the welcoming village of Gich, where local people may offer a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony. Continue to the nearby campsite for overnight camping

Gich → Imet Gogo → Chennek

Trekking distance: 12 km
Trekking duration: 7–8 hours
Overnight altitude: 3,620 meters

Today is the most spectacular day of the trek, offering breathtaking mountain scenery throughout the journey. The trail climbs gradually across the Gich Plateau, home to giant lobelia plants and dramatic escarpment views.

A short detour leads to the famous viewpoint at Imet Gogo (3,925 m), considered one of the finest panoramic viewpoints in Ethiopia. Enjoy incredible vistas of deep canyons, towering cliffs, and distant mountain ranges.

Continue trekking past several high peaks, including Inataye (4,070 m), while keeping an eye out for lammergeyers soaring overhead and thick-billed ravens along the trail.

Upon arrival at Chennek camp, there is an excellent opportunity to spot the rare and endangered Walia ibex, often seen near the campsite. Overnight camping.

Chennek → Ras Bwahit → Gondar

Trekking distance: 10 km
Trekking duration: 5–6 hours
Highest altitude: 4,430 meters
Driving time to Gondar: Approximately 4 hours

The final day of trekking takes you to Bwahit Pass (4,200 m) and continues to Ras Bwahit (4,430 m), the second-highest peak in Ethiopia after Ras Dashen.

The trail offers outstanding mountain scenery and another chance to observe Walia ibex as well as the rare Ethiopian wolf, one of the world’s most endangered canids.

After completing the trek, descend back to Chennek and drive to Gondar, arriving in the late afternoon. and we will drop at Gondar Airport to Fly back in Addis Ababa.
