Day wise Itinerary

Arrival at Bagdogra airport/ NJP railway station. Meeting and assistance and drive to Uttarey. (2,320 mtr.165 km / 06 hrs.). A base camp for adventure tourism for Khangchendzonga and Singalila Range trekking trial.

our ascend takes to highest reaches of the Singalila Ridge, which forms the border between Sikkim and Nepal. We pass through a rich forest cover, swathes of Rhododendron, open ridges, sacred lakes and remote passes. Our first day takes us to Chewabhanjyang. An easy trail rises gently through rainforest until a final steep ascent for the last couple of hours bring us to the Nepalese border and our first camp. A walk to Phoktey Dara (top of the Chewabhanjyang) in the wee hours of the morning provides one of the breath-taking views of the both mountains of Nepal & Sikkim (360 degree view). Acclimatization here is a must for further ascending trekkers. Overnight stay in tent.

this is an attractive setting to acquire some essential early acclimatization. A hike to the nearby Singalila peak – Phoktey Dara (3,618m) over the border to Nepal and West Bengal i.e. tri- junction area of Sikkim, Nepal and West Bengal will give us valuable accommodation and 360 degree view of Annapurna Range including Mt. Everest, Makalu, Nuptse and towering view of massive Khangchendzonga range.

A gentle uphill traverse through forests and then over a more exposed hill side brings us to prayer flags adorning our first pass and views of distant mountains – a taste of what is to come. As we gradually gain height we will appreciate the previous day’s acclimatization. The occasional yak herders hut is the only sign of habitation as we look down far below to the rice fields and cardamom plantations. Our camp is in a remote and sheltered hollow below the ridge.

  • Day 5 : DHOOR-PAREY MEGU (3900 MTR)

Throughout the day we descend and climb, maintaining a steady height, spiralling from one side of the ridge to the other until a rough steep ascent takes us across a pass. Beyond, the trail winds its way steadily through Rhododendrons and past several Hindu shrines where a second easier pass drops down to our camp close to a Shepherd’s summer settlement. Watch the Blue Sheep on the high craggy mountainside.

We walk easily on a good trail through woods until we began a steady rise of a broad valley where we catch our first closer view of the entire Kabru Range dominated by Mt. Pandim (6,691m). A further two hours of ascent will get us to our camp with Everest and a host of other Khumbu Giants dominating the distant skyline. An afternoon of rest and acclimatization for the following days foot slogging.

Sparse vegetation can be seen as we mount up higher. A little snow underfoot can be expected as we climb to our first pass, the DanpheyBhir La at 4,530m, the Pass of the Pheasant. From here it is possible to see the whole of Sikkim with the view stretching out well into Tibet and Bhutan. A further hours contouring and a small ascent reveals the KagBhir La, (the Pass of the Crow) where we may be lucky enough to get the closest view of the panorama of the Himalayan peaks including Majestic Khangchendzonga. Reluctantly, we then must head own hill making a steep descent to our river side camp Gomathang.

we have our lovely meadow camp to climb through forests of sweet smelling silver fir and rhododendrons. Soon we are in high mountains terrain again. The route is up and down and finally stiff ascend while nearing to Pangding. Pangding offers the view of almost all the important peaks and ranges of this trek.

  • Day 9 : PANGDING-DZONGRI (4000 MTR)

First trekkers have to descend down to Tikep Chu (3,700m) and then ascend up to Dzongri crossing Rathong Chu River. As Tikepchu is lower in altitude big pine trees and rhododendron bushes become visible and large rocks dominates the area. It offers a nice area to rest. After refreshment climb begans to Dzongri.

  • Day 10 : DZONGRI-THANGSING (3930 MTR)

Thangsing actually means a flat land and is at the distance of 9 kilometres from Dzongri at an altitude of 3,930 meters. It can take five hours from Dzongri to reach the trekkers hut. Thangsing even though it is lower in altitude than Dzongri it is colder as moister laden wind keeps blowing inside the Thangsing Valley. Sometimes Wind turn harsh especially in the afternoon in Thangsing and Lamuney area. Great towering view of Mt. Pandim, Jophnu, and TenzingKhang at the right side of the camp will awestruck your eyes.

  • Day 11 : THANGSING-LAMUNEY(4200 MTR)

Lamuney takes about 2 hours walk from Thangsing and Shortens the route to high altitude Goechela Trek. Located at distance of 4 kilometres. Enchanting Samiti Lake Take just 45 minutes climb from here. If you don’t feel tired you can climb up to the Lake which is on the way to Goechela but if you prefer to rest at Lamuney you can enjoy the sanctity of Lake the other day because you will be going through the side of the Lake to Goechela.

  • Day 12 : LAMUNEY-GOECHA-LA (5000 MTR) KOKCHRONG (3700 MTR)

Goechela view point comprises of three viewpoints. All the viewpoints are on the top of moraine. First view point takes about two and a half hour to reach from Lamuney campsite and is at the altitude of 4,700 meters. First view point is the base of Mt. Pandim (6,691 meters). When the weather is favourable first view point offers magical view of Goecha Peak, Mt Khangchendzonga, TenzingKhang, Jophnu etc. Further Second View Points at an altitude of 4,900 meters take two hours and it is very close to second view point. Green lake is just below the moraine of second view point and on the left side Goechela glacier can be seen. Last view point takes just half hour from here and is at the altitude of 5,000 meters. The day will be obviously difficult but the view it offers will soon dissolve all your tiredness. It will be the most memorable trek perhaps for the life time.

After descending down from Goechela View point to Lamuney campsite (can take more than 3 and a half hour). To shorten the route to Tshoka one has to descent down to Kokchurung after Lunch. Kokchurung which is just below Thangsing Campsite is at the altitude of 3,700 meter and it is truly enchanting place to spend. Song of flowing Kokchurung River nearby and picturesque surrounding of Rhododendron bushes and flowing stream just near the Kokchurung hut and towering peaks of Mt Pandim 6691 meters, TenzingKhang 6010 meters, Jophnu 6100 meters and Oklathang range will leave you stunned.

  • Day 13 : KOKCHRONG-TSHOKA (2900 MTR)

To Descend down to Tshoka one does not have to go all the way round to Dzongri. Kokchurung offers alternative to Tshoka. The route from Kokchurung connects to Phedang. The middle point of Dzongri and Tshoka. The narrow path will prove to be enjoying walk for nature lovers. Four and half hour Walk among thickest bushes of different floral species will reach you to Phedang and further down descend via very same route that you climbed up to Dzongri will take you to Tshoka which can take not more than 2 hours.

Our tour of Sikkim & Darjeeling was a fabulous one thanks to Jeewan. Thanks to his vast knowledge of various locations he customised our itinerary keeping in mind kids and elders. Jeewan made sure we visited key monuments and also had enough resting time. His team of Drivers: Mangal, Biswa and Silas made sure the drive was safe and comfortable throughout our trip. Would recommend Jeewan for any trip/trek in and around Sikkim.
