Standing on the other side of Alibag Beach, Kolaba Fort is an enchanting and an important tourist attraction in the city. It is a 300-year-old fort which is now in a remnant state. It served as the naval station of the Raje dynasty to which Chhatrapati Shivaji belonged. This fort is an architectural masterpiece of the bygone era and has a lot of tales to narrate to its visitors.
It Is Known For:-
1) Kolaba Fort is surrounded by waters of the Arabian Sea on all four sides and is a great example of the Maratha architecture.
2) It has different temples of the Hindu religious figurines in the vicinity. Previously, it was used as the royal shrine by the descendants of the royal family but today, it is utilized by the people to offer their prayers.
3) The interior walls of the fort carry the carvings of the animals and birds. According to the locals, the army chieftains used to worship these carvings in order to gain the war energies to defeat the opponent’s army.
4) An ancient shrine of Lord Ganesha still exists inside this temple. It houses a stone idol of the elephant-headed god.
