Package Overview

The best months to visit the Ndutu Region are from December, when the Great Wildebeest Migration herds start to arrive from the north, until April when the millions of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle have trekked northwards again. In the early months of the year – with a peak in February – the wildebeest herds are calving on the verdant grassy plains: thousands upon thousands of baby animals are born every day, attracting the attention of cheetah, lion and hyena.

A big draw of the Ndutu Region is to see the full circle of the Great Migration, from the return of the herds to graze in December, and then the calving which takes place in January and February, and then the departure of the herds again in April as they start making their journey northwards. Calving season is particularly dramatic: a million wildebeest give birth to 8000 babies every day, and as these newborns take their first steps, they’re targeted by lion, leopard, cheetah and hyena.

Herds have moved back into Ndutu from Maswa and Kakesio areas. The rains have been coming daily and the area is looking beautifully green, with plenty of grazing for all the herbivores available. The calving season has really kicked off now and there are lots of new born wildebeest calves and zebra foals all around us. Big herds have been seen crossing Lake Ndutu heading to Makao, which is close to Maswa. This surely is one of the best times to see the migration as the shear abundance of animals scattered across the open short grass plains is truly mind boggling. The circle of life continues in Ndutu with guests witnessing zebra foals and Wildebeest calves being born and on the other end the predators taking advantage of the huge number of inexperienced young animals. In late November 2025, four friends and I from India did the Marangu Route with Aardvark Expeditions, and it was a great experience every step of the way. In the weeks leading up to our climb, we exchanged many emails with the Aardvark Expeditions sales staff. Their quick responses and thorough explanations were what persuaded us to book with them. While climbing, our guide (Gabriel and Fred) were extremely professional. They adapted their pace to ours, provided encouraging words and advice to help us acclimatise, and made sure we were safe at all times. The food that Erik and Abuu prepared was another highlight. The meals were fresh, filling and served to us with a smile. Aardvark Expeditions made our first Kili attempt feel possible, secure and fun. Highly recommended!

Our 8-day Lemosho Route Climb was a wonderful opportunity to climb Mount Kilimanjaro with our companions from India and family members from the United States of America. The Sales Team supports a high level of responsiveness to customers' needs during the booking process. We felt an immediate connection with the Aardvark Expeditions Limited because of the quick response times and open and honest communication etc. Our head guide, Fred and assistant guide Bariki were excellent leaders who provided good guidance and concern for all climbers throughout the entire Kilimanjaro Trek. They kept climbers safe, happy and comfortable throughout each stage of the trek. We reached the summit of Kilimanjaro with a sense of accomplishment, confidence and pride. For us, this climb was about the journey and the people who helped us along the way to reach the summit. We highly recommend this team to anyone looking to climb Kilimanjaro.

The Absolute Best Team on Kilimanjaro A group of 4 climbers from India, along with 3 friends from the UK, completed an arduous climb via the 7-day Machame Route with Aardvark Expeditions, and they exceeded our every expectation along the way. The first impression we had of Aardvark Expeditions (Philemon Joel) was one of speed in responding to our requests, providing clear directions, and making truthful declarations about what to expect when we booked. Booking our climb was made easy due to the assistance provided by the sales team. During the actual climb, the guiding team of Bariki and Jonathan performed exceptionally well. They were vigilant in their monitoring of climbers, supported us when altitude sickness hit, and continuously provided motivation throughout our trek on the mountain. The summit day was incredibly emotional, and all Aardvark Expeditions staff were there at the summit to celebrate with us for achieving our goal.
