A thoughtfully structured pilgrimage style 5 day 5 night journey through Sri Lanka connecting sacred Buddhist places, ancient cities and living traditions. The itinerary covers Colombo, the sacred Kelaniya temple area, the ancient capital of Anuradhapura and its monuments, the pilgrimage site of Mihintale and the hill city of Kandy with the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. Travel is by private air conditioned vehicle with a professional English speaking driver or local guide and accommodation is in comfortable tourist class hotels. The programme balances pilgrimage, heritage, scenery and local culture and is presented in English.
Arrival in Sri Lanka and welcome by the local representative followed by transfer to Colombo for hotel check in. Depending on arrival time, guests may enjoy a relaxed city orientation and leisure time to rest after the journey. After breakfast begin the heritage journey from Colombo towards the ancient city of Anuradhapura. En route visit the sacred Kelaniya Buddhist temple area an important religious site near Colombo. Continue the scenic overland journey to Anuradhapura and check in at the hotel for overnight stay.
Spend the day exploring Anuradhapura one of Sri Lankas great ancient capitals and a major centre of Buddhist heritage. Visit significant sacred areas monuments and stupas in Anuradhapura and then undertake a pilgrimage visit to Mihintale traditionally revered as the place where Buddhism was introduced to Sri Lanka. Overnight stay in Anuradhapura or nearby.
Travel south towards Kandy passing through Sri Lankas changing landscapes. On arrival explore the historic hill city of Kandy with a city orientation and a visit to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic one of the countrys most revered Buddhist sites. Evening at leisure and overnight in Kandy.
After breakfast complete the final portion of the journey and transfer towards Colombo or the airport for onward travel. If flight timing permits additional city time shopping or visits may be arranged before departure. The tour concludes on arrival at Colombo or the airport.
