Ram Raja Temple

Located in Orchha, Madhya Pradesh, the Ram Raja Temple is one of the most visited holy shrines in the state. Owing to the high footfall in this temple, it is also popularly known as Orchha Temple. As the name suggests, the temple is devoted to Lord Rama and has the idols of Lord Rama accompanied by wife Sita and brother Lakshman in the sanctum of this temple. Also present in the temple are Maharaj Sugreev, Narsingh Bhagwan, Hanumanji, Jamwantji, and the powerful Goddess Durga. Legends have it that this temple was the Queen’s Mahal where the queen of Orchha accidentally placed the child form of Lord Rama. The actual temple was supposed to be the Chatturbhuj Temple but once he was seated on inside the palace, he could not be budged. To date, the Rani Mahal is visited by thousands of visitors every day to pay their homage to the child form of Lord Rama. The splendid architecture of the palace, which is now transformed into a holy shrine, has a peaceful ambience, magnificent architecture, marble courtyards, and colorful walls.

The temple gets beautifully decorated with lights and flowers during different Hindu festivals like the birth anniversary of Lord Rama, Makar Sankranti, Vasant Panchami, Kartik Purnima, Shivratri, Ram Navami, and Vivaha Panchami. The best time is none other than during these festivals to see the temple in full grandeur.
