Climate and Geography
Srinagar is in the Himalayan region of India, with its valley surrounded by mountains on all side, at an elevation of 1,585 m. The city has Jhelum River passing through it. Known as Vyath in Kashmir, Jhelum River deepens in the Dal Lake.
Srinagar as a humid subtropical climate; due to high elevation of the land, it is much cooler than the rest of India. The summers are warm and pleasant while winters are freezing with heavy rainfalls that block the routes. The place receives a good amount of rain, especially during spring season.
Transportation
Srinagar has an international airport, named Sheikh ul Alam Airport. It has connectivity to Delhi and Mumbai with one or two flights per day by each airline. The high altitude however causes flight delays often.
Tourists also take the rail route for Srinagar till Jammu and a taxi or bus there onwards. Tourists can reach Srinagar directly by road through NH 1A and 1D. For getting around in the city, travellers can use auto-rickshaws, taxis, buses or rented bikes. Shikaras and boats are also a means of travel in Dal Lake.
Shopping & Entertainment
Kashmir is famous for its Pashmina Shawls all over India. Travellers can also buy embroidered mats and carpets with traditional Kashmiri work on them. The dry fruits from this region are also popular.
