Package Overview

Taita Hills Wildlife sanctuary is a privately owned wildlife park that covers an area of about 110 km2, and is adjacent to Tsavo West National Park. Sanctuary hosts a great diversity of bird life. The Sanctuary provides a safe environment to over 300 species of birds and over 50 species of mammals within 28,000 acres of rolling savanna and woodland habitats.

Mamals withi the Sanctuary includes: giraffe, zebra, hartebeest, impala, lion, lesser kudu, dik-dik waterbuck, Thomson’s gazelle, cape buffalo, elephant, leopard and many more among others.

Tsavo West National Park
Tsavo West has prolific bird life of over 450 species recorded including variety of animals can be seen within the park. Ngulia Hills, one of the landmarks in the park, is situated along one of the world’s busiest avian migration routes. Between October and January bird ringers make an annual pilgrimage to the park. Ngulia is recognized as the site of Africa’s foremost bird-ringing. More than 100 migrant and resident species have been ringed here, the most prolific being river warbler, red-backed shrike, thrush nightingale, marsh warbler, and the common whitethroat.

Wild animals in Tsavo west include; crocodile, mongoose, elephant, giraffe, zebra, lion, hyrax, dik- dik, lesser kudu, wild dogs, buffalo, nocturnal porcupine, leopard, cheetah, and many more.

Tsavo East National Park
Tsavo East has an impressive checklist of over 400 bird species. The presence of many dry-country specials makes it easy to spot them including the magnificent golden-breasted starling, golden pipit and vulturine guineafowl. Migrant species from mostly Europe are present from November till April.

Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Taita Hills Animal Sanctuary (saltlick) – 3 Hrs Drive

  You will be picked up from your hotel in the morning and depart for Taita Hills Wildlife and birding Sanctuary arriving there in time for lunch. Check in and later on enjoy an afternoon bird watching drive within the sanctuary. Salt Lick Lodge is a truly unique architectural concept, with luxurious oval-shaped rooms, overlooking a waterhole which attracts a large number of wildlife, especially the elephants. In the evenings the animals gather at the waterhole-a spectacular site to behold, to drink at the watering hole. Dinner and overnight at Salt Lick Lodge.

• Day 2 : Tsavo West – 2 Hrs Drive

  Pre breakfast. Early morning birding tour around the sanctuary looking for birds. After breakfast, depart for Tsavo West National Park with birding session en-route arriving at the Lodge in time for lunch. Afternoon birdwatching as you look for a sight to see the sun setting. Dinner and overnight the Lodge/Camp.

• Day 3 : Tsavo East – 1 and Half Hrs Drive

  After breakfast, enjoy birding en-route as you leave the park arriving at Tsavo East National Park in time for lunch. Afternoon birding tour within the Tsavo East National Park which is the biggest wildlife sanctuary in Kenya noted for its vast elephant herds and a variety of game including giraffe, buffalo, zebra, lion, cheetah and many other animals. Over 400 bird species have been recorded here. Dinner and overnight at the lodge/camp.

• Day 4 : Tsavo East /mombasa – 2 Hrs Drive

  Breakfast, check out from the lodge/camp for birding en-route as you leave the park. Depart for Mombasa arriving in time for lunch, alternatively you can break for lunch at a stopover restaurant before you leave for Mombasa.
