8-Day Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro Through Lemosho Route

Day 1 begins with transfer by road from Arusha to Londorossi Gate. You will start the Lemosho Route and camp at Mti Mkubwa Camp at about 2650m above sea level. Mti Mkubwa Camp lies along the Lemosho Route and is the nearest camp to Lemosho Gate. Amenities are simple with shared toilets and camping close to other travelers, offering opportunities to share information and advice. Meals on this day are lunch and dinner. The focus is on hiking and preparing and allowing your body to acclimatise and recover from travel while gaining initial appreciation of the region's natural beauty.

Day 2 takes you to Shira Camp 1 on a plateau at approximately 3810m. Shira Camp 1 is less frequented, with no facilities, offering views of Kilimanjaros Kibo summit to the north east and Mount Meru to the west. Vegetation is scrubby and there are no trees. Meals for the day include breakfast, lunch and dinner. The day comprises guided hiking along the Lemosho Route with time to relax and continue acclimatisation.

Day 3 is spent moving to Moir Hut Camp where you can rest and enjoy a sense of achievement and the company of other travelers. Accommodation is in a mountain hut and meals include breakfast, lunch and dinner. The day features guided hiking with opportunities to be surrounded by nature and further acclimatise.

Day 4 brings you to Barranco Camp at around 3983m, characterised by desert like landscapes above the tree line. You will camp as there are no huts or buildings, and will have views of the summit from the camping area. Meals include breakfast, lunch and dinner. The day focuses on hiking along the route, experiencing high altitude desert scenery and continuing rest and recovery.

Day 5 moves you to Karanga Camp at approximately 3995m, high on Mount Kilimanjaro with an alpine desert landscape and no trees. The summit is visible from here and the campsite accommodates many climbers passing through. Meals include breakfast, lunch and dinner. The day consists of guided hiking and relaxation to maintain acclimatisation.

Day 6 you stay at Barafu Camp at about 4681m where the landscape is high, treeless and very cold. Barafu means ice in Swahili. This is a high camp offering expansive views across valleys and interaction with other climbers who have reached this milestone. Meals include breakfast, lunch and dinner. The day includes guided hiking and preparation for the final stages of the climb while resting and acclimatising.

Day 7 descends to Mweka Camp at around 3060m situated on descent only routes. At this lower altitude there is more oxygen and a sense that the most difficult sections of the climb are behind you. The area offers beautiful views and relief. Meals include breakfast, lunch and dinner. The day comprises guided hiking, descent and rest.

Day 8 is the final day beginning with transfer by foot from Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate, followed by transfer by road from Mweka Gate to Arusha where the tour finishes. Meals on this day include breakfast and lunch. The day concludes your 8 day Lemosho Route Kilimanjaro climb with return to Arusha.
