Jiri to Everest Base Camp chases the celebrated EBC trail from Namche onwards, however skipping an electrifying Lukla flight to begin the trek is worthwhile. Jiri, the place also known as Switzerland of Nepal, is stunning small mid-hill town and the mountainous hamlets inbetween Jiri and Namche are wonderful time forgotten villages, which can be interesting discovery during this trek.
Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek is the first route used by the early expedition’s team to climb Mt. Everest from the Nepal side and it also known as the most beautiful route on the earth. This route starts from Jiri, passes through the Sherpa villages of the Solu Khumbu and also takes you to Kala Patthar, from where the southwest face of Everest can be clearly seen, as well as a side trip to Everest Base Camp and while returning this trek leads you to Lukla for the flight back to Kathmandu.
Apart of this, This Everest Base Camp trek via Jiri route also provides you great opportunity to experience beautiful Khumbu district, and allows for gradual acclimatization. On this trail, the highest elevation you reached is the viewpoint of Kala Pattar (5550m). Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek is the wonderful journey from lowland.

Today is your arrival day in Kathmandu! We heartily welcome you to the country of Himalaya, home to some of our planet’s highest peaks. A member of our adventures team will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. After checking in at the hotel with refreshment, you will be brought to our office. We will briefly discuss the trekking Itinerary with you, leaving the rest of the day for you to explore and do your own thing. Stay overnight at a Kathmandu hotel.
Kathmandu is the historical and cultural heart of Nepal and has been a popular destination for tourists ever since Nepal opened its doors to visitors. The city presents a wonderful mix of Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism and Western influences in the Valley. Our guided tour comprises of memorable attractions such as the biggest Hindu shrine of Pashupatinath, the largest Buddhist stupa in Nepal - Boudhanath, Kathmandu Durbar Square, and famous Monkey Temple in Swayambhunath.After the day sightseeing tour, we drive back to the hotel to pack our equipment and amenities for the trek. With the remaining spare time, you may explore the Thamel Market and nearby shops for last minute shopping of trekking supplies. Stay overnight at a Kathmandu hotel.
Today we drive early morning to Jiri and for that we go to Old bus park to board the bus to Jiri. Although Jiri is only 188 km away from Kathmandu, the journey will take approximately 7/8 hours. On reaching we will check in to our hotel and then begin to explore this small mid-hill beauty. Overnight at Jiri.
After the breakfast, we start our trek along the paved road in Jiri. After crossing a stream the trail leaves the road and starts to climb uphill and reach Bharkur. Then, we keep on climbing to Mali Danda (2440m), from where there are good views of the peaks near Rolwalling. Beyond Mali Danda we descend down to the Khimti Valley through the sparsely populated Sherpa settlement of Mali at 2220m and continue our way to cross the bridge over Yelung Khola at 1860m. After crossing the Khimti Khola on another suspension bridge we will reach Shivalaya (1810m) for overnight and Stay overnight at Shivalaya.
Today after the breakfast in Shivalaya, we start our trek with a steep ascend towards the pass at Deorali (2710m). On our way to this pass we will cross numerous streams and walk through the villages of Sangbadanda (2180m), Khasrubas (2330m) and Mahabhir (2590m). From Deorali Pass, we steeply descend on the stone steps to Bhandar. Stay overnight at Bhandar.
Today from Bhandar the trail descends through the lower fields of the village, passing through the small settlements of Doharpa and Baranda before crossing the Tharo River on a steel bridge at 1480m. As we follow the east bank of the river we climb towards Kenja (1600m), a settlement inhabited by Newars and Magars. As we leave Kenja we start to ascent steeply towards Chimbu (2170m) and continue trek on towards to Sete (2520m). Stay overnight at Sete.
Today our trek starts with a effortful walk from Sete to the top of Lamjura Bhanjyang 3530m. The way is scenic and varied through forests of rhododendron, magnolia, maple and birch. This section of the trail is also well known for spotting birds like sunbirds, mina vets, flycatchers, laughing thruses and many others. Lamjura Bhanjyang is the highest point on the trek between Jiri and Namche Bazaar and is marked by a tangle of stones, twigs and prayer flags. On the eastern side of the pass the route descends steeply for about 400m through fragrant fir and hemlock forests and then levels out passing the small village of Tragdobuk (2830m). Continuing our way down we will arrive in Junbesi, a splendid Sherpa village amid beautiful surroundings. Stay overnight at teahouse.
Today as the trek from Junbesi begins we cross Junbesi Khola River, we then climb steeply uphill to arrive the hilltop for the first striking glimpse of Mt. Everest and other Himalayan peaks including Thamserku (6608m), Kantega (6779m), Kusum Kanguru (6367m) and Mera Peak (6654m). After crossing the Ringmo River, the trail ascends to Ringmo Village, Beyond Ringmo we climb to the Trakshindu La pass (3071m), where we can see the isolated monastery of Trakshindu which is a superb example of Sherpa architecture. Then again we descent through forests of conifer and rhododendron, until we reach at Nunthala (2200m). Stay overnight at Teahouse.
Today as we start our trek from Nunthala, the trail descends and continues to the Dudh Kosi (‘Milk River’) and cross this river over 109m long suspension bridge. We continue to climb up a ridge to a Sherpa village named Khari Khola (2010m). Again after crossing the suspension bridge over Khari Khola then trail the ascends and then continue climb to Bupsa (2360m). Evening we explore Bupsa and Stay overnight at Bupsa.
Today the trek starts with a gentle climb towards Chablung, passing the village of Kharte we continue the trek through the forests. This part of trek offers admirable views of Cho Oyu (8153m) and we keep climbing up the ridge till we reach to Khari La Pass at 2840m. After the pass, the trail descents into the deep canyon of Puiyan Khola. After crossing bridge we reach the small settlement of Puiyan (2770m). After Puiyan there are several ups and down about an hour to a ridge from we can view wonderful Khumbu region and then descend about 500m towards Surke (2290m). Continuing our trail upwards again finally we reach at Chablung (2700m). Stay overnight at Chablung.
After the breakfast in Chablung, the trail drops steeply for a bit then descends to Thado Khosi gaon, then we will cross the suspension bridge after that we will reach valley of Mt. Kusum Kanguru (6367m). Walking along the banks of the Dudh Koshi River we climb again to reach at Phakding (2610m). On the way we will see the snow-capped peak of Thamserku (6623m) & Khumbi La (5765m) at Benkar. From Benkar it is only a short walk to Monjo (2840m) and beyond the Monjo trek enters to the Sagarmatha National park where you need to check your permits. After checking the permits the trail descends to large farm, crosses the bridge over Dudh Kosi and after short distance walk we reach Jorsale (2830m). From Jorsale the trail again follows the river for a while then re-crosses the Dudh Koshi River and after short ups and downs, the trail follows steep ascend towards the Namche Bazaar (3440m). En-route, we may see the Mt. Everest (8848m), Lhotse (8516m) and Nuptse (7879m). We finally reach to Namche Bazaar, the bustling gateway to khumbu. Evening explore around Namche valley and Stay overnight at teahouse.
Today, we will have our first acclimatization day of the trek! Higher the altitude, thinner the air- we need to gain altitude slowly and steadily so that we get enough time to acclimatize en route, to Everest Base Camp 5357m. However, the acclimatization day does not mean to chill with the beer at Namche. We hike to a hill above Namche, which is one and half hours hike. The view of Mt. Everest with great panorama of Khumbu Himalayas are spectacular from Syangboche. Return back to Namche, lunch and remaining day you can simply relax or visit in and around Namche .
Today, we will hike to Tengboche from Nacmhe. After breakfast at Nacmhe Lodge, we will start our hike through the ridge of the hillside, enjoying the great views of Mt. Kusum Kangaru, Thamserku & Ama Dablem on the right across the valley. First one hour of trekking is straight through the hillside, followed by the descend to the river valley where we will have our lunch. Post lunch, will have ascend through the sup- tropical forested hills to Tengboche for overnight. Tengboche has biggest Monastery in Khumbu, where we can see monks indulged in humming sacred religious Buddhists prayers. The dramatic rise of Mt. Ama Dablam at the backdrop of Tengboche Monastery is the eye-feasting view at Tengboche. Dinner & O/N at Tengboche.
Mt. Ama Dablam backdrop at Tengboche Monastery, looks even more striking in the morning. Enjoy the view and the breakfast and resume the trek. Today's trek begin with the short descend. We will have pleasant walking through the treeline for 30 minutes, and after crossing the bridge on local stream, as treeline ends, we will start walking in dry and deserted hill. Walking in dry hill along the rock stwern trail we gradually slide up crossing through the typical Sherpa villages like Pangboche and Shomare before we finally reach to the Dingboche for overnight.
Today, after early breakfast, we start our hiking uphill gradually along a plateau of yak herder shelters, which is an amazing hike. After 2 and half hours gradual walk, we will reach to Dughla where we will have our lunch . From here, we follow the trial up on a hill which is demands a litlle bit of strenous walk relatively. It eventually takes you to the higher altitude so slow and steady pace allows comfortable ascending. On reaching to top, we have memorial stupas of the death Sherpa’s and clients who lost their life in tragic accident in Himalayas. Now, you are on the higher region of Khumbu. Further, short rocky terrain walking brings us to Lobuche for overnight.
This is our day to reach Everest Base Camp (EBC). After breakfast, we walk along the rocky terrain alongside the Khumbu glacier to EBC. It is straightforward slow paced glacial walk for 2 and ½ hours. Everest Base Camp is along the side in Khumbu Glacier. We’ll take our time inspecting the Khumbu ice fall, visit ice areas and glacier part in EBC, enjoy the great Himalayas and make best photos & Videos, then return back to Gorekshep for the lunch. If it happens to be an Everest expedition season (Mostly in spring at April & May), you could also see the tented camps of climbers who are preparing to their safe attempt to Mt. Everest, thus this place is named Everest Base Camp! In evening, we return back to Gorakshep for overnight stay.
After the breakfast, the short trekking through a glacier moraine brings us to Gorekshep (2 hours). After a quick settlement, and lunch, we will then start hiking to a big black rock hill to Kalapathar just above Gorekshep. This hike is straight uphill climb for 2 and hours. The trek to Gorakshep could be tough cold as the place is very windy so prepared with warm clothing. The summit of Kala Patter or “Black Rock” offers us the great big views of Mt. Everest (8848m/29000ft) including the full spread of Khumbu Himalayas- truly an unobstructed view of the highest mountain in the world. Alongside, Mt. Pumori looks great close up. As the sunset, the views are more colourful. After exploring we will return back to Gorak shep have a breakfast continue trek heading down through Lobuche and Dughla. From here we start our easy walk in the valley to Periche (4260m). Stay overnight at Pheriche.
After the breakfast, we begin the trek descending down to Imja Khola and cross the bridge. Then we ascend to the hill which has is a few stone memorials of climbers who died in the Everest. Then we walk through the lower trail which goes to Tengboche cross passing Pangboche. Walking for few hours finally we reach at Tengboche(3867m). You may enjoy the breathtaking view of sunset and sunrise as well as magnificent view of the Mt. Everest inlcluding other Himalayas from Tengboche. Tengboche monastery is one of the beautiful monasteries in Solukhumbu area. Stay overnight at Tengboche.
Today we trek back along the Dudh Kosi River through a magnificent rhododendron forest and coss pass brilliant waterfalls. Shortly before reaching Namche, the trek takes us through a pine forest, where musk deer often graze in the early morning. Beyond Namche the trail descends to Larja Dovan, on the way we get last opportunity to see Mt. Everest and Lhotse. After re-crossing the Dudh Koshi we continue our walk to Jorsale. Beyond the Jorsale the trail leads to Monjo (2835m). Evening we rest and explore at Monjo. Stay overnight at Monjo.
From Monjo the trail descends for a while and crosses Dudh Koshi over the suspension bridge then short easy walk to Benkar. After Benker the trail follows a bit up then after re-crossing the suspension bridge we reach at Phakding (2610m). Beyond Phakding the trail follows a short descends continue level walk then climb up a short distance after that finally you re-crosses last long suspension bridge of your trek. Finally short distances walk to approach to Hotel in Lukla, Stay overnight at Lukla.
Our flight to Kathmandu is in the morning. After the breakfast, we will check in to Lukla airport and board the plane to Kathmandu.
Flight is depended on weather conditions so delay could happen! On arrival to Kathmandu, we will transfer you to your hotel. In the evening, we will meet you again, take your feedback on the trek with our crew and will host a farewell dinner at one of the finest restaurant in town. O/N at Kathmandu
Today your trip comes at end. After breakfast at your hotel, you have now free time . If it is the day that you fly back home/ onward travel destination, we will transfer you to airport on time. Or you could extend your stay or you may get our assistance for additional activities that you are interested in..
