Þórsmörk valley is an incredibly beautiful mountain ridge situated in the south of Iceland, between Tindfjallajökull and Eyjafjallajökull glaciers.
This is the site of the first of two massive volcanic eruptions in 2010. The brand new (touchable) lava, large craters and vast sweeping mountains make this hike truly unimaginable. With its vibrantly colored valleys and abundance of huge surrounding mountains, it is sure to deliver an unforgettable experience. To reach this secluded highland valley our experienced driver/guide uses a modified 4×4 vehicle known as an Icelandic super jeep. On the way to Thorsmork we will visit the mighty and picturesque waterfall, Seljalandsfoss. Next we will pass the Gigjokull glacier where we will see the results of the famous Eyjafjallajokull volcanic eruption. Our final destination is the Basar cabin where we will embark on our 6-8 hour hike up and back down the Fimmvorduhals volcanoes.
The elevation gain is between 700-800 meters and approximately 14 km total. The hike is rated 4 out of 5 in difficulty.
