Mont-aux-Sources is a mountain block, forming one of the highest and most spectacular portions of the Drakensberg. It includes the Sentinel, a spectacular wall of 1,000 vertical feet. The high point of the massif is actually an inconspicuous protuberance, but it is important in that it forms the triangular corner where Lesotho meets the South African provinces of Natal and Orange Free State. Cathedral Peak is perhaps the most famous peak of the Drakensberg, situated in a popular hiking and rock climbing area where several free-standing rock pinnacles have been separated from the main escarpment by erosion. A vast network of trails stretches throughout the region, converging upon a main trailhead at the Cathedral Peak Hotel, east of the escarpment. Many excellent rock climbing peaks are accessible from this trailhead, the most popular being Monk's Cowl, Cathkin Peak, and Twins.
On this moderate/strenuous graded walking tour we focus on Africa's most spectacular mountains south of Kilimanjaro. In Lesotho, we'll walk with colourful Basotho people in a land rich in deep ravines, waterfalls and tribal culture and hike to the highest point in Southern Africa, Thabana Ntlenyana.
