The City of Vijayawada has a flat topography with some small hills of the Eastern Ghats and agricultural fields in the central region. The Krishna River flows through the city and Budameru River on the north.
The climate in Vijayawada is mostly hot and humid. During May-June, temperature soars to 47°C and hardly drops below 15°C during winters. The city experiences both the southwest monsoon and northeast monsoon, making the humidity levels go up to 78%.
There is a well-planned network of roads and the city is connected through NH-16 and NH-9 with other major cities. There are plenty of state and private owned buses that run through and outside the city. For local travelling auto-rickshaws and cycle-rickshaws are common modes of transport.
Vijayawada railway station is an important and busy junction which receives around 320 passenger and freight trains every day. It connects to some main railway routes. There are some other railway stations in the city also.
The Gannavaram domestic airport is only 19km away from the city and connects Vijayawada to other major cities through flights of Jet Airways, Spice Jet, Air India etc.
