Kali Mata Mandir

Located just in front of the Baradari Gardens in the north of Old Patiala City, the Kali Mata Mandir holds high religious value among the people. Maharaja Bhupinder Singh, a Sikh ruler, built this Temple in 1936 and got a 6 feet tall Kali Devi idol along with ‘Pawan Jyoti’ from Bengal to be installed in gold plated sanctum inside this temple. This temple is an excellent example of the architectural brilliance of the people in the bygone era. It is made purely using white marble, and its walls are also bejeweled with beautiful murals. In fact, the frescoes and paintings on the wall also tell the stories of the Hindu mythologies and epics. The fierce and powerful image of Goddess Kali depicted in the idol with blood-shot eyes, red drooping tongue, and a human head in her hand is a sight to behold.

1)    The 6-feet tall idol of Goddess Kali that was brought by Maharaja himself from Calcutta, Bengal. Its ferocious form with the human head in her hand amaze the devotees.

3)    The nine-days Navaratra celebrations performed within the temple.
