Day 1 : Arrive At Phuentsholling from Bagdogra Airport
Arrival at Bagdogra Airport. Transfer to Phuentsholling on request and negotiation. The drive is very pleasant along sloping foothills on Bhutan side and lush green tea gardens on the Indian side from where the expansive plain begin. The drive takes about 3 hours from Bagdogra to Phuentsholing, the commercial hub and Gateway to interior Bhutan. Overnight halt at Phuentsholing (980ft). Dinner: at the hotel. Phuentsholing is situated at the foothills of Himalaya.
Day 2 : Phuentsholling - Thimpu – Journey & Sightseeing On the Way
Breakfast: Depart for Thimphu. The ascending drive from Phuentsholing with gradual climb is most pleasant lush green sub-tropical forest. Visit Kharbandi Geompa, a Buddhist temple and enjoy panoramic scenery of the Indian plains.
Continue journey while enjoying scenic beauty all along the road. The temperature gets cooler as the travelers climb higher to the ridge. Chukha Hydro-Power Project site can be seen from the road. As the drive advances towards the interior region, the habitation changes from broad leave forest to blue pine until the travelers reach Thimphu.
Lunch: Travelers can enjoy lunch at one of the local road side restaurants on the way depending on the midday meal timing. The road is well paved with double lane for smooth traffic flow. Zigs & bends are many but no reason to cause risks.
Check-in at a designated hotel on arrival in Thimphu. Take pleasure strolls in the streets to get the feel of Bhutanese way of life. Thimphu is the fastest growing city in Southeast Asia without traffic lights and KFC & McDonald counters in the streets.
Dinner: The Guests will have choice of relishing dinner at the hotel or a restaurant in town.
Day 3 : Thimpu – Full Day Sightseeing in & Around Thimphu
Thimphu, is perhaps the most unusual capital city and smallest in the world. Reportedly the fastest growing city in Southeast Asia. This bustling town is home to Bhutan’s royal family and seat of the government.
Breakfast: Visit Buddha Point, Takin Zoo, Sangaygang View Point, Little Bhutan Heritage, 13 Arts & Crafts Institute, Happiness Garden, Bhutan Postal Museum, Tashichhodzong, the main secretariat building which houses the Throne Room of His Majesty, the King. Tashichhodzong is also the summer residence of the Je Khenpo (Chief Abbot).
Lunch: At a tourist restaurant in town and continue visiting Craft Bazar, Textile Museum, National Library and National Memorial Stupa in the evening.
Dinner: At the hotel or a restaurant in town. Overnight at Thimphu.
Day 4 : Thimphu - Punakha – Journey & Sightseeing On the Way
Breakfast: Depart for Punakha crossing over over Dochu-la pass (10,130ft). Stop at Dochula View Point for sightseeing and photography. It is a photographer’s paradise. There are 108 Miniature Stupas on a knoll of hill which add to beauty to surrounding nature. Further in the forest are 11 manmade Meditation Caves in the fir forest.
Stop at Lam Pelri Botanical Park where the travelers are treated to a short documentary film to provide insights into the rich flora & fauna of Bhutan. The drive takes the travelers through lush green forest of various species. Further down in the lower valleys, the rural settlements can be seen all along the road.
Lunch: At a roadside tourist restaurant at Lobesa and Yuwakha on the way to Punakha. The drive to Punakha takes about 30 minutes from the Lunching place.
Punakha was the capital and political seat of Bhutan until 1955 before the seat of government moved to Thimphu. Situated on the riverbank prominently dominated by the towering Punakha Dzong provides architectural wonders. Fires and earthquake destroyed much of the historic documents, Punukha Dzong still houses many sacred and historic artifacts and the embalmed body of Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal.
Visit Punakha Dzong in the evening if time permits. The Dzong visit should be before 5pm after which no visitors are allowed. Take a leisure stroll around in Khuruthang township after the Dzong visit. If not, the Dzong visit will be done the next morning.
Dinner: At the designated hotel.
Overnight at Punakha
Day 5 : Punakha – Phobjikha – Journey & Sightseeing On the Way
Breakfast: Visit Punakha Dzong if missed the previous evening. Drive up stream for about 20 kms and hike upto Khamsum Yuelley Stupa located on a gradual hill in chirpine forest overlooking the valley and meandering river. The visitors can enjoy panoramic scenery all around from the Stupa.
Return back to Punakha on the way to Phobjikha via Wangduephodran town. The drive on a well paved double lane Highway takes about two hours to Phobjikha through rural villages dotting the artistically terraced rice fields. The drive through lush green forest is one of the most enjoyable taking the travelers closer to nature and pristine forests all along.
Lunch: At a roadside tourist restaurant where the guests can relish over sumptuous midday meal while enjoying the sceneries of snow-capped mountain towering on the northern side.
An hour long drive will take the travelers through rhododendron, fir, birch, larch and blue pine forests until Phobjikha valley. The undulating Phobjikha valley resembles to the famous Swiss alpines and therefore, it is known as the Little Switzerland of Bhutan. The valley is wide open and air is thin, thus, providing natural self-healing effects to those coming from mega cities.
Take Nature Walks in the evening before dinner and inhale crispy air to clean the lungs. Visit Black Neck Crane Conservatorium on arrival in the valley.
Dinner: At the hotel/home stay/guest house Overnight at Phobjikha
Day 6 : Phobjikha – Paro - Return Journey & Sightseeing
Breakfast: Visit Gangtey Monastery which is one of the oldest in the country constructed in 16th century to uphold the Nyingma lineage of Buddhist tradition.
Drive upto Pelela Pass on the way back to Wangduephodrang. Pelela Pass at 330m is the highest on Thimphu – Trongsa Highway. Return back after spending sometime to get the feel of high altitude. The return journey will take about two hours on the same road to Wangduephodrang. Depending on the season during the visit, the forest along the road provide breathtaking colors as magnolia, rhododendron, wild cherries and orchids will be in full blooms.
Lunch: Enjoy lunch at a tourist restaurant or hotel at Dochula. Depart for Paro after lunch. Visit places of tourist interests on the way as may be detailed in the Final Itinerary.
Dinner: At the hotel after checking-in at a designated hotel. Overnight in Paro
Day 7 : Paro – Hike to Taktshang Monastery – Full Day Excursion
Early Breakfast: Depart for Taktshang Hike which takes about 4 hours depending on the physical fitness of the individual. Taktshang Hike is considered the highlight of the Bhutan Visit for foreigners as it is no less than any of the Wonders in the world. It is a must visit tourist destination.
Lunch: Enjoy Buffett Lunch at Taktshang Cafeteria on the way back from Taktshang Monastery. The Cafeteria is located at a strategic place to allow the visitors to enjoy scenic beauty of Taktshang while relishing lunch & refreshments.
Visit Ta-Dzong National Museum on the way back. This museum is the treasure house of Bhutan where very sacred artifacts and rare stamps are on display manifesting the progression of history in Bhutan. Take leisure stroll in Paro town before going back to the hotel.
Dinner: At the hotel or a tourist restaurant in town. Overnight in Paro
Day 8 : Paro – Haa Valley – Day Trip for Sightseeing
Breakfast: Depart for Haa Valley on a Day Trip crossing over Chelela Pass. Haa Valley is little over 2 hours drive from Paro. Stop at Chelela to enjoy the scenic views of perpetually snow-capped Mount Jumolhari and other mountains bordering with Tibet in the north.
Lunch: At a tourist restaurant in Haa Valley. Visit places of tourist interests and return to Paro retracting back on the same road.
Farewll Dinner: A Cultural Program will be organized for entertainment of the visiting guests followed by the Farewell Dinner. Overnight in Paro
Day 9 : Airport Drop – Return Flight – Bon Voyage
Breakfast: The hotels serve early Breakfast depending on the Flight Departure timing.
The Guide & Driver will see-off the guests at Paro International Airport wishing Safe Return!
