Gokarna is situated at western coast in Uttara Kannada, district of Karnataka. Lord Shiva who is also referred as Mahabhaleshwara is the chief deity worshipped in the town. It is believed that the town houses the original image of Lord Shiva's lingam. There are also many beautiful towns slumped in this region.
Historically, Gokarna is also counted amongst the seven Hindu pilgrimage centres. It is situated on the once unsullied beach, which is situated in near proximity to estuary of river Aghanashini. Though throughout the year, the town is flocked by the devotees of Lord Shiva but the travellers wishing to take a vacation can also visit the town. One can enjoy a laid back attitude in the unspoiled and rustic terrains overwhelmingly.
It is the western tourists who made the beaches stashed in the land popular, otherwise these were abandoned by the natives. Eventually; many restaurants, stores and resorts also opened up near the shores.
Climate & Geography
Gokarna is a temple town located in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. It witnesses minimum temperature of 180 C (summers), & 140 C (winters) and max. temperature of 400 C (summers) & 320 C(winters). The town experiences semi tropical moderate climate. The summer season starts from March and ends in May. The months starting from June to August witness heavy showers and winters take over the town in months starting from November to January. The most suitable months to make visit to the town are the months from October to March when the summers are not that hot and the town receives only mild rainfall.
Transportation
Moving around Gokarna is very easy. One can board auto rickshaws, and local boatmen can also take the passengers from one beach to other beach at a very nominal fee.

Bus: Gokarna is well-connected by buses and one can reach the station via buses too. One can also board the private buses; the fares are always nominal.
Auto Rickshaw: Auto rickshaws can be boarded easily while in Gokarna. One usually finds no difficulty in finding an auto rickshaw that would take one to the railways station.
Shopping & Entertainment
There are many small shops everywhere in the town where the travellers can buy clothes, religious items, psychedelic T-shirts, trance music CDs, inexpensive jewellery etc. One can also shop for trinkets and other items such as malas (prayer beads), incense, cheap jewellery, religious paraphernalia, cotton pois etc. from the stalls. There are not many options for entertainment in the town.
