Pilgrims are advised not to pay more than the specified rates for either services or their provisions. It is important to observe discipline on the trek and keep moving slowly and steadily. Adhere to the instructions issued by the Yatra Officer from time to time. Officials of the State Police, Health, Tourism, Food & Supplies and other concerned Departments are deployed on duty to help the pilgrims. You must also ensure that you are physically fit for the journey, and have yourself medically examined. Remember that you have to cross Mahagunus pass which is at an altitude of 14,000 feet above sea level. Please ensure that ponies carrying your luggage and eatables remain with you at all times. Also ensure that the Ponywalla, laborer or Dandiwalla is properly registered and carries a token. You can get these alloted at fixed rates at the base camps. Do not over strain on steep gradients: do not relax at points where there are warning notices; don't break traffic discipline or try to overtake other on difficult stretches. Aged, infirm, ailing and insufficiently clothed persons will not be permitted to proceed beyond Pahalgam.23-1230-12

Day wise Itinerary

Day 1 Srinagar - Pahalgam

Distance: 110 kms. Driving Time (App.): 3-4 hrs. On arrival at Srinagar Airport met and transfer to Pahalgam. On arrival at Pahalgam transfer to hotel for overnight stay.
Day 2 Pahalgham - Chandanwari - Sheshnag

Distance: 16 kms + trek*13 kms. Driving Time (App.): 6-7 hrs. Leave Pahalgam (Valley of Shepherds) drive for Chandanwari. Pahalgam is the best base for most of the treks. Chandanwari (2896 Mts.) is a small shut off vale, at the junction of Sheshnag stream and the stream for Astanmarg. On arrival to Chandanwari, trek to Sheshnag which is about 13 kms (3576 Mts). The trial climbs the Pissu Ghati and then climbs gradually to the Sheshnag Lake. Sheshnag is one of the windiest places in this valley. Dinner and overnight stay in tents at Sheshnag.

Day 3 Sheshnag - Panchtarni - Amarnath - Panchtarni

Distance: Trek*17 kms + Darshan Of Holy Cave + Trek*6 kms. Driving Time (App.): 11-12 hrs. Start trek from Sheshnag to Panchtarni (3657 Mts) The walk is through Mahagunas Pass (3200 Mts), and then a gradual walk to Panchtarni. Further trek Panchtarni to Amarnath cave. Amarnath is only 6 kms away from Panchtarni. Have a dip in the ice-cold water of Amarnath Stream, which flows, outside the cave. Inside the cave there is scenery of calm tranquility of white and glistering three massive Lingmas stand erect symbol of Lord Shiva, Parvathi and Ganesh. Later trek back towards Panchtarni. Dinner and overnight stay in Panchtarni.

Day 4 Panchtarni - Chandanwari - Pahalgam - Srinagar

Distance: 16 kms + trek*24 kms. Driving Time (App.): 10-12 hrs. Trek down to Chandanwari. On arrival in Chandanwari, drive to Srinagar. Transfer to Houseboats. Dinner and overnight stay in Houseboats.

Day 5 In Srinagar

Dal LakeMughal Garden

Morning sightseeing of Mughal Gardens visiting Nishat Bagh (Abode of pleasure, built by Asif Khan brother in law of Jehangir in 1632 A. D) And Shalimar Bagh (Abode of love built by Jehangir fro his wife Empress Noor Jehan). All the gardens are situated on the bank of Dal Lake with the Zabarwan Mountains in the background. Enroute visit carpet-weaving factory. After lunch Shikara ride on Dal Lake visiting floating and vegetable gardens etc. Dinner and overnight stay in Deluxe Houseboats.

Day 6 Srinagar - Jammu - Delhi

Departure transfer to airport to connect flight for Jammu or Delhi. OR Early morning drive back to Jammu. A distance of about 300 kms will be covered in about 9 hrs. On arrival to Jammu, transfer to Railway station to board the train for onward destination.

Please ensure that you are physically and mentally fit to perform the journey as the Yatra involves trekking at an altitude of 14,000 ft. Have yourself medically examined and certified fit for the journey and forward the medical certificate to the registering authority designated for your area of residence. Do carry sufficient heavy woolens including sweaters, (full as well as half sleaved), drawers woolen trousers, gloves, monkey caps etc. other items to be carried include wind cheater, light rain coat, a sleeping bag or blankets or a set of bedding items water proof tent, a torch with sufficient batteries, a walking stick with proper hand grip. Ladies are advised not go on the journey in Saris, instead pants or salwar suits with drawers should be used. Do carry some eatable like biscuits, candy, milk powder, sugar, assorted dry fruits, honey and some tinned food with you. Also carry water bottle, plastic plate, tumbler, Spoons, etc. Ration and firewood quota has been especially arranged for you at all stations enroute, against payment. Make sure that the ponywalla, the labourer, the dandywalla is properly registered and carries a token. You can get these allotted at fixed rates by competent authority at the same camp. Do ensure that ponies carrying your luggage and eatables etc. remain with you all time, if you let them ramain behind you are likely to be unnecessarily inconvenienced. Do observe discipline on the trek and keep on moving slowly and steadily. Adhere to the instructions issued by the Yatra Officer from time to time. The officials of the Police, Tourism, Health, Food & Supplies and other Departments are there to help you to perform the journey comfortably. Do carry sufficient money to pay your accommodation at Pehalgam and at other stations enroute to the Holy Cave and for meeting other personal requirements. All medical facilities during the Yatra are free. However, do carry your personal medical kit also. Carrying/use of alcohol enroute the Yatra is strictly prohibited.

Do not pay more than the prices/rates fixed for porters, ponies, dandies, rations firewood, accommodation etc. Note:-Aged, infirm, ailing, and insufficiently clothed persons will not be permitted to proceed beyond Pehalgam. No Yatri will be allowed without a registration card.
