While Sigiriya is a more famous UNESCO site, Pidurangala offers a more peaceful and budget-friendly alternative. It costs significantly less to enter and provides equally stunning, if not better, views—especially of Sigiriya itself.
King Kashyapa, who built the Sigiriya Fortress, is believed to have relocated monks from Sigiriya to Pidurangala to construct his palace. As a result, Pidurangala holds historical ties to Sigiriya’s royal history and religious roots.
