Coorg is located on the Western Ghats. The foggy valley of Coorg is blessed with the abundant beauty and pleasant climate. The valley is enclosed in bright green landscapes, acres of coffee and spice plantations. Due to its lush beauty and pleasant weather conditions, it is also called the ‘Scotland of India’.
Talakaveri Wildlife Sanctuary, Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary, Nagarahole National Park and the Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary are situated here. The River Kaveri flow down from a height of 70 feets and makes Abbey Falls here.
The original native of Coorg does not follow any particular religion. They follow their own believe and worship ancestor. Each family has a particular place for worship their ancestors. In worship, sometime they offer meat and liquor to ancestors. They celebrate Huthri/Puttari festival during November to December month. In the end of monsoon, they celebrate and annual festival of arms called Kailpoud.
Abbey Falls are situated on Kaveri River. It pours down from the height of 70 feet and makes a beautiful landscape. It is 8 km from Madikeri. In monsoon season the water flow becomes very high as several streams combine and plunging down with colossal speed. A hanging bridge has constructed for better view of Abbey Falls.
Lingarajendra II had constructed the Omkareshwara temple in 1820. It is told that the king has killed a devout Brahmin and got cursed. To get rid of that curse, he constructed the Shiva Linga temple. The Shiva Linga was brought from Kashi. There is wonderful blend of Islamic and Gothic architectural style.
Tadiyendamol is a famous trekking spot in Coorg. This is the second highest peak in Karnataka and the highest peak in Coorg. Naalkunaadu Palace was built in 1792 by by Dodda Raja Veerendra is used as camping site for trakkers. You will feel like heaven from Thadiyandamol mountain .
