Day 1 : Arrival Delhi.
You will be met from your flight to Delhi International Airport by Summit Safari’s representative / your tour guide, and he will accompany you to your hotel in New Delhi. Rest of the day free at rest after a long flight.
Day 2 : Delhi to Shimla 2,050 metres / 6,726 feet. (By Train and By Car)
Today it is along but interesting day of journey from the plains of India from Delhi to The Foot Hills of Himalayas to Shimla. Early in the morning, you will be assisted to board the super fast Shatabdhi train from New Delhi (07:30 A.M) to Chandigarh (11: 10 A.M). Breakfast will be served to you on this first class train. On arrival at Chandigarh railway station we will be met by our drivers and guide further they will drive you to Shimla, in the Foothills of Himalayas. We will reach Shimla by late afternoon, where on arrival you will check in to your hotel and evening free to walk around Shimla- the erstwhile “Summer Capital of India”.
Day 3 : Shimla (short familiarisation ride – approximately 20 Kms / 4-5 hrs )
Today we will meet our team, guides, driver/ helpers etc and the cycles that you will ride for the next several days to the Indian Himalayas. After an exhaustive briefing by your tour escort we will be taking a short ride (2-3 hrs) around Shimla, in an effort to know your cycle properly and to get familiar with it. We will also peddle to the Viceregal lodge and the Jakhoo Temple (monkey temple) of Shimla. The evening can be spent taking a walk on The Mall, soaking-in the charm of Shimla and visiting the Ridge, scandal point of Shimla, Christ Church of Shimla. Second Night in the same hotel in Shimla.
Day 4 : Shimla to Narkanda 2,708 metres / 8,885 feet (65 kms / 5-6 hrs).
After breakfast we will start to Narkanda a beautiful village in the country sides of Shimla, on our way to deep into the Himalayas. We will be following the Indo- Tibetan Border Road (National Highway No. 22) and Enroute we will pass by the beautiful villages of Fagu, Theog, Matiana which are famous for apples, cherry and apricot orchards. En route we will have many comfort breaks and photo stops. Overnight in hotel in Narkanda.
Day 5 : Narkanda to Ani (90 Kms / 6- 7 hrs)
After breakfast we will start to Ani village. The road leads down till Sainj where we meet the Satlej River. We will take a left turn towards Luhri where we will cross the Satlej river and start climbing up to Ani a small village in Kullu valley. Overnight in camp or local home stay.
Day 6 : Ani to Jalori Pass to Shoja (36 kms).
Today after breakfast we will start our climb up to the Jalori Pass 3,120 metres / 10,800 feet. As we star climbing uphill through the forest road and apple orchards till the pass (30 kms), the views start changing. You can have the stunning beautiful views of the Satlej valley below. We will reach Jalori pass where we will have our lunch in a local tea shop. Jalori pass offers stunning views of the Central Himalayas along with the snow peaks, valleys, meadows, forests, rivers and fresh water streams. We descend down to Shoja where we will stay in a small local guest house / hotel as per your choice. Evening free to walk around and to relax in the environment.
Day 7 : Shoja to Mandi. (73 kms)
After breakfast we start paddling down through Jibhi, Banjar, Bali Chowki to Mandi through the countryside road. After approximately 35 kms we will meet the national highway 21, near the Kullu Tunnel (Larji / Aut) from where we continue towards our left, another 38 kms to Mandi. We will follow the Beas River from here and Enroute we pass through the beautiful valleys and Pandoh dam to Mandi. Overnight in hotel in Mandi.
Day 8 : Mandi to Rewalser ( 25-40 kms ).
Today morning we will visit the Mandi town and will visit the ancient temple at Mandi. Further we continue in the hills to Rewalser village and lake. Rewalser is held as a sacred place for Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists, with temple, monasteries and Sikh shrine ( Gurudwara) in the surrounds of Rewalser lake. With water, woodland and high hills, it presents a variety of natural beauty. In the evening if interested you can paddle uphill to the cave monasteries ( Neel sar / sarari dhar 10 kms) through different villages on the way and will return back down to Rewalser for your overnight stay in hotel.
Day 9 : Rewalser to Panjgain.( 60 kms)
After breakfast we will ride downhill from Rewalser to Ner chowk (20 kms), where we will meet the national highway 21, again towards Sundernagar , Barmana and Beri. From Beri we will take a left turn in to the countryside road and will reach Panjgain village (3 kms), where we will stay with a local family in the home stay. Evening free to walk around the village.
Day 10 : Panjgain to Basdi village (95 kms)
After breakfast we will make an early start to Basdi village in Kangra valley. Enroute we will pass by Ghagas, Ghumarwin, Bhota, Hamirpur and Nadun town. We will reach the village Basdi by evening where we will stay in a neat and clean comfortable home stay for the next 03 nights.
Day 11 : Basdi to Pragpur and Garli and back to Basdi. (35 kms)
Today we will ride to the heritage village of Garli and Pragpur famous for its heritage mansions. We will visit the local village market and will meet and speak to the local people to know more about their lifestyle, culture and traditions. Later on return back to home stay in Basdi village. Second night in the home stay in the village.
Day 12 : Basdi : explore local villages .
After a leisurely breakfast we will walk around the Basdi village and will visit a local school, where we will meet the local children’s and the teachers. We will also attend the school prayers which are held regularly during the morning time We will take fresh seasonable fruits with us to distribute among the school children’s.( summit safari will arrange for the seasonable fruits). Today we will spend our time relaxing and walking or riding our mountain bikes around the village. Third night in the village home stay.
Day 13 : Basdi to Dharamshala / Mcleodganj (75 kms)
Today early morning we will leave for Dharamshala and Mcleodganj. Enroute we will pass by Jawalamukhi and Kangra. Originally home of the semi-nomadic Gaddi tribe, Mcleodganj is today the residence of His Holiness, the Dalai Lama. Evening is free to walk around the local interesting market of Mcleodganj.
Day 14 : Around Mcleodganj.
After breakfast at your hotel, we will leave for a sightseeing tour including, the Dalai Lama’s Buddhist monastery, St.John church , situated in the wilderness- where Lord Elgin is buried ( 1863) and the local market. Today we have a flexibility to offer you a hike to the nearby mountains and villages ( 3 hrs), and could be done as per your interest . These walks present a very panoramic view of the Dhauladhar Himalayan Ranges and the villages around the valley. Second night at the same hotel in Mcleodganj.
Day 15 : Mecleodganj to Norbulingka Sidhbari (15 kms
Today after breakfast you have free time to explore the local market of Mcleodganj and later on we will paddle to the Norbulingka Institute at a place known as Sidhbari, an institute working for the preservation of traditional Tibetan arts and crafts. At present, it houses over 300 teachers, students and workers. The arts and crafts include Thanka painting, tailoring, metal sculpture and wood crafts. There is a Losel doll museum a monastery and a popular restaurant inside the Norbulingka institute. We will stay one night in the hotel run by the Norbulingka institute at Sidhbari.
Day 16 : Sidhbari to Basdi village (55 kms).
Today after breakfast we will ride back to village Basdi. Enroute we will visit Kangra fort and the centuries old Hindu temple- Jawalaji temple (which is known as the temple of flames- due the natural fire flames those are burning out of the temple walls at many places. We will arrive Basdi village by evening, finally where we stay one night again in the home stay. We will leave our Mountain Bikes in the village.
Day 17 : Basdi to Chandigarh and to Delhi ( By car 190 kms)
Today you have a easy start after the breakfast around 10:30 A.M. we will drive you to Chandigarh railway station to board the super fast Kalka Shatabdhi train to New Delhi, from Chandigarh ( 6:10 P.M) to New Delhi ( 9:50 P.M). On arrival at New Delhi you will be met by your driver and we will drive you to your hotel in Delhi.
Day 18 : Delhi Local and Fly back.
Today after breakfast at your hotel, you will be assisted and will be transfer to the international airport at New Delhi to board your return flight. In case you have a flight at night or in late evening than you may wish to go for sightseeing in Delhi. We will visit Bangla sahib Gurudwara ( a Sikh shrine), a walking tour of old Delhi market and the Gandhi Smriti, also known as the Birla house where –Mahatma Gandhi had lived the last 144 days of his life from 09 September 1947 to 30 January 1948 when he was assassinated in 78th year of life at Birla House Prayer Grounds by Nathuram Godse. Thus, the house treasures many memories of his life. If interested we will arrange for a bicycle rickshaw ride in old Delhi or a Tuk- Tuk ( Three wheeler ) ride in New Delhi for you. You can have a choice to have your lunch in a local restaurant in New Delhi and later on we will transfer you to the international airport at New Delhi to board your return flight.
