After an early breakfast, depart from your lodge and drive to the spectacular Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Africa’s most remarkable wildlife destinations. Descend approximately 600 meters into the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater, the largest intact volcanic caldera on Earth, where an extraordinary concentration of wildlife thrives within its natural walls. Enjoy a full morning game drive across the crater floor, offering excellent opportunities to spot the Big Five—lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and the endangered black rhinoceros—as well as large herds of zebras, wildebeests, gazelles, hippos, hyenas, jackals, and an impressive variety of bird species. The crater’s permanent water sources and lush grasslands make it one of the best wildlife viewing areas in Tanzania throughout the year. At midday, stop at a scenic picnic site near the hippo pool to enjoy your packed lunch while surrounded by the breathtaking landscapes of the crater. After lunch, continue with an afternoon game drive before ascending the crater rim. Depending on your itinerary, proceed to your lodge for dinner and overnight or return to Arusha, bringing an unforgettable day of exceptional wildlife encounters and spectacular scenery to a close.
