Nearly 50 kilometers from town of Mandi, Himachal Pradesh there is a temple dedicated to the great sage Prashar at an altitude of 2730 meters. The 13th Century Pagoda shaped temple is a marvel of architecture. The lake is surrounded by snow capped peaks and and overlooks the gushing river Beas. The lake is very deep and divers have been unable to ascertain it's depth. The lake also has a floating island in it. The trek to Prashar Lake follows a beautiful and charming forest trail and offers a fantabalous 180 degree view of Dhauladhar, Pir Panjal and Kinnaur Mountain Ranges. The temple architecture in itself is worth a visit, as it's built in traditional himachali architecture which blends perfectly with the landscape. In winter the whole area included the lake is carpeted with snow and offers unparallel views
The trek starts from Baggi which is 26 kilometers from the town of Mandi and from there it's a defined route which leads us to Prashar Lake after trekking for 4-5 hours after traversing through dense jungles and enchanting meadows. In winter the whole area is covered with snow and might get slippery at times. On the top there are some wooden huts and a guest house and some shops for refreshments. The temple and it's surroundings offer spectacular scenic views and an amazing panaroma of snow covered mountains and lush green meadows where cows, sheeps and goats can been seen grazing along with small huts of gujjars and gaddis. The area is green and is totally untouched by modern amenities and is a great place for picnics and camping. We camp here beside the beautiful Prashar Lake alongside wonderful stars with some music and bonfire and make it a wonderful evening.
