The beauty of the ridge line separating the inner and outer Seraj was first extolled by Penelope Chetwode, daughter of the commander in Chief of the British Army in India in 1931. She accompanied her mother on foot and horseback from Shimla to the Rohtang Pass. She returned to India in 1963 to trek the entire distance once again. Her book Kullu-The End of Habitable World, describes the journey.

The Jalori Pass which links Inner and Outer Seraj is 76km. from Kullu. Its crest offers panoramic views of the Himalaya. Surrounded by majestic forests, this area is home to the Himalayan brown bear and certain varieties of Pheasant including the Monal and Tarpan. Jalori Pass is the first Pass to open every year in early April.
