We begin the trek at the Khmu village of Ban Jaluensouk. From here the trail leads up to the ridge line. We follow the trail along and pass through the forest which is in various stages of regeneration as well as some upland rice paddies. The guide will tell you how we are working with the villagers to help conserve and regenerate the forest. We will meet some of the villagers along the trail as they go to and from the market. As we continue onwards we descend from the ridge down to the village of Ban Nalan Tai which sits on the banks of the Nam Ha river. From here we continue onwards to either Ban Nam Goy or Ban Nalan Tai, alternating from trip to trip in order to share the benefits the villages receive. If staying in Ban Nalan Tai we will walk onwards for further 40 minutes.
Approximately: 30 minutes transfer, 5-6 hours trekking
After breakfast we continue through the forest and along the banks of the Nam Ha river. Deer and monkeys live in this area so if we walk quietly we may catch a glimpse of them. For lunch we meet up with some villagers and enjoy a picnic together in the forest. After lunch we carry on to the Nam Ha river which we cross via a bamboo raft and enter the Nam Ha National Protected Area. As we continue onwards and trail leads us through dense jungle, we follow a stream where we will notice signs of the abundant wildlife in the area. If we are lucky, we may even see some of the many different species of animals who live here. We continue over the ridge passing through rice paddies before reaching the banks of the Nam Tha river which we and cross via to Ban Hat Yawng where the stay the night.
Approximately: 5 hours trekking.
On day three we cycle along the banks of the Nam Tha River for around 40km. The ride takes us along the edge of Nam Ha National Park which is on the other side of the river. We stop for lunch which is prepared for us by the Lanten people at Ban Sop Dute. After lunch we continue on cycling until arriving back in Luang Namtha.
Please note: In wet season the roads can become muddy.
