An explorer, Joseph Thomson, came across the waterfall to the north of the town in 1883 which he named Thomson's Falls after his father. He was the first European to walk from Mombasa to Lake Victoria.
The cascade plunges 75 meters, and is a pretty area to walk around. A stony path of sorts leads down to the bottom of the ravine. Do not attempt to go down any other way as the rocks on the side of the ravine are very loose.
It's more commonly known as 'T-falls'. Upstream on the Ewaso Narok River is found one of Kenya's highest altitude hippo pools in an area of marshy bog land, about 2 km from the falls.Tips
