On your first day of travels in Uganda, you immediately hit the road to take in the first images of the country on a 3-hour drive to Jinja. From Entebbe, you first drive to the capital Kampala and from there, you continue to the energizing city of Jinja. Just before reaching this town on the shores of Lake Victoria, you pass over the Source of the Nile bridge and get a first glimpse of this famous body of water originating in Lake Victoria. Then Jinja awaits, get ready for adventure!

From the bustling Jinja you drive to Kibale National Park today, known as the primate capital of the world. The park hosts the most chimpanzees and monkey species in the world and monkey lovers will have a blast discovering all 13 species (the L'Hoest monkey, olive baboon, vervet monkey, grey-cheeked Mangabey, Uganda red Colobus and Prince Demidoff's bushbaby to just name a few). The drive takes about 7 hours and the landscapes are diverse, from lush greenery along the riverbanks to grasslands and evergreen rainforest when you approach Kibale.

Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale National Park
Uganda’s Kibale National Park has the highest concentration of chimpanzees on the African continent, with approximately 1,500 chimps in several groups, offering you a high chance of seeing them in the wild. Expert guides lead you through the lush rainforest, where you can observe chimps leaping through trees, playing, eating, and grooming each other. Please note that the minimum age for this 2 to 4 hour trek is 12 years, requires proper hiking shoes, and groups are limited to 6 people. Also, since this is a very popular activity which needs both a permit and a guide, it has to be booked separately and well in advance.


Swamp walk in Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary at Kibale National Park
The swamp walk through the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary at Kibale National Park is a must-do if you love birds, monkeys, rare animals, plants and flowers. This magical place, also called "home of the great blue turaco", is the home of over 200 bird species. During your walk, you can spot eight primate species in the trees above you, as well as other Ugandan animals such as sitatungas, bushbucks and otters (yes, otters!). Lose yourself in the sights, sounds and smells of this pristine wetland; this is a true gem which only waits to be discovered… by you!

Boat safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park
Last call for those wishing to explore the Kazinga Channel! Go aboard a boat that can accommodate up to twenty people and explore this beautiful and biodiverse place for 2-3 hours. The Kazinga Channel in the Queen Elizabeth National Park stretches 40 kilometres long, linking Lake George to Lake Edward. Keep a keen eye out at all times, as you may spot hippos, crocodiles, buffalo, elephants, and a variety of other animals. Two daily departure times are offered for this boat trip: in the morning, at 11:00 AM, and in the afternoon, at 2:00 PM.

After having explored the second-largest national park in Uganda, you are now off to discover the smallest national park in Uganda: the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park! During the six-hour ride, you see the lush landscapes of Queen Elizabeth National Park making way for misty mountains and green jungle all around. Once you reach your destination, incredible encounters with the mountain gorillas await you!

The Rushaga sector in the southern part of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to eight gorilla families, some of which are still unaccustomed to human presence. During a mountain gorilla trekking tour, you can hike along challenging trails, spending either an hour with the habituated groups or, at an extra cost, up to four hours observing the less familiar giants in their natural habitat. This once-in-a-lifetime experience, where you can watch the gorillas eat, play, and be guarded by the silverback, will leave you in awe and may even bring tears of joy to your eyes. Please note that gorilla trekking is conducted in groups of up to 8 people, requires proper hiking shoes, and typically lasts 2 to 4 hours. Mgahinga Gorilla National Park may be the smallest Ugandan national park, but it's definitely not the least of them! This little park so happens to be home to the endangered mountain gorillas, and you can meet these gentle giants in their natural habitat if you book a gorilla trekking. Important: this activity needs to be planned in advance and booked separately. Besides gorillas, the park also offers opportunities to spot golden monkeys, and to go bird watching, volcano hiking, and have amazingly beautiful cultural encounters with the indigenous Batwa people who know everything about being one with nature!

Test your spirit, unleash your inner explorer and conquer the summit of Mount Sabinyo, a 3,674-meter-high extinct volcano towering over Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. The 7- to 8-hour moderate hike of approximately 14 km takes you through lush mountain forests where you may be lucky enough to spot golden monkeys, exotic bird species and maybe even the endangered mountain gorilla. Once on the top, you are rewarded with a panoramic view that stretches across three countries: Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

From the misty mountains of Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, you proceed your journey to Lake Mburo National Park. The drive will take about 8 hours and you'll see the scenery gradually change to hilly green pastures and wide-open savannahs. Make sure to keep an eye out for wildlife along the way because, as you approach Lake Mburo, you can see rare birds, such as the African finfoot or the shoebill stork. Also, the region is known for zebras, impala, bushbuck, leopards and warthogs. Get your binoculars and cameras out during this trip!

During a mountainbike safari outside of Lake Mburo National Park, you get a closer look at African wildlife (like really close!), learn more about plants and catch a glimpse of traditional village life. In a jeep, you can cover even more ground afterwards.

As you drive back to Entebbe, you again pass through the villages with their lively marketplaces and the outstretched countryside with tea and coffee plantations, smooth green hills and the occasional wildlife waving you goodbye. After several days of sheer adventure, even the ride back to Entebbe is an experience to enjoy!

This is your last day! Unfortunately, it's time to catch your flight home from Entebbe International Airport. Sad to leave...? Not to worry! We can easily add a few days of safari to your holiday, or extend it with a few days on the shores of Lake Victoria for some whitewater rafting or other exhilarating activities!
