In the Bumdra Trek, we will be hiking besides the stunning Himalayan ranges. During this trek you will be visiting the two most revered Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Bhutan, Bumdra and Taktshang Monastery. Bumdra means ‘Rock of One Hundred Thousand Foot Prints’. Bumdra is about 3800 m above sea level. Taktshang Monastery means the tiger’s next which is above 3100 m above sea level.
Sang Choekor Monastery – Bumdra Monastery
3-4 hours to camp, 2-3 hours optional return trek to peak (3800 mts)
The hike begins from Sang Choekor Buddhist College (2,800 m) to Yak Pasture below Bumdra Monastery (3,800 m). For the first hour or two the path will be steep but the shades from the forest will keep was covered from the sunlight which make the hike much easier. After which we will reach a clearing with prayer flags and enjoy a spectacular view of both Paro and Do Chhu valleys.
After another trek for about 1-2 hour we will be reaching a temple known as Chhoe Chhoe Tse Lhakhang which is hidden in the mountainside. The track continues and when we reach the last steep climb we see a temple with a view of Paro Airport and the snowy Himalayas. And for the last part of the trek we climb up until we reach the Bumdra Monastery.
After lunch we can visit the monastery (if it is unoccupied) and climb towards the north of the peak (about 4000 m) for a better view of the Himalayan before returning for dinner.

Bumdra Monastery – Tiger’s Nest
2-3 hours hike to Tiger’s Nest
After enjoying the view and hanging some prayer flags of our own we will start our journey towards the tiger next beginning from ancient pine and rhododendron forest. After 1-2 hours of descent we catch glimpses of the golden roofs of temples below and soon come upon the first of many on our way back from the wilds.
The road winds its way across the hillside between monasteries and temples before reaching the Sangtopelr (heaven on earth) garden, where you can bravely look over the edge and straight down to the ornate roofs of Taktsang on the cliff far below. An hour later we are at the gates of Taktsang and look over the gorge, the steep descent to the waterfall, then climb the stairs and enter the Tiger Next.
Starting from the Sangachhoekhor Shedra. The trek takes about three and a half hours. Bumdra campsite is located at an altitude of 3800 meters above sea level. For lunch we stop at a small "Tshamkhang" or Hermitage on the way. After lunch it only takes us an hour to reach the campsite, which means we have plenty of time to explore and wander around. After arriving at the campsite, we will take a tea break and when you are ready, we can go to visit the tomb of the ancient heaven at the top of the mountain.
