Mount meru stands tall at 4566masl and is the second highest mountain in Tanzania. Mount Meru is located in the Arusha national park and it offers one of the most breathtaking scenery and wildlife diversity compared to any mountain in Tanzania. Meru trek is indeed a challenging trek due to the rocky ridges and its steep sandy ascent to the peak. However, it is one of the best ways to get an experience of high altitude trekking and it also the best way to acclimatize for those who want to conquer Mount Kilimanjaro.
Trekking the Mountain takes you through places from where you can get a glimpse of the magnificent view of Mount Kilimanjaro and enjoy the wildlife while trekking.
Pre-trek Briefing - Hotel
If you have opted for the optional airport transfers, we will pick you up from Kilimanjaro Airport or Arusha airport and transfer you to your hotel in Arusha close to the park.
Pre-trek briefing at your Arusha hotel. You should be planning to arrive atleast one day before the start of the trek. Today we will spend in having a pre-trek briefing. Our guides will also review your equipment and advice you rent any equipment which is needed.
Drive from Arusha to Momella Gate takes about 2 hours. At the gate your guide will do all the procedures of registration and weighing of the porters luggages before you are assigned a game ranger and joint a ground. The trek takes you through places from where you can catch breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the renowned Momella lakes where the Hatari movie was acted. Trekkers encounter a big fig tree, wildlife like Bushbucks, Cape Buffaloes, Giraffes, and Warthogs during this day. We continue a short distance until we reach the Miriakamba hut.

Today we trek through the steep path along the ridge Nicknamed "the Elephant back". On the way, you can see the stunning Meru crater, the ash cone, little Meru and stunning Mount Kilimanjaro. There are chances of the team encountering wild animals like Cape Buffaloes and the black and white Colobus monkey. We will end the trek up at Saddle hut. After lunch we will set off on a short trek to little Meru 3810masl for acclimatization purpose and return to Saddle hut for dinner.

We wake up just after midnight and have a light meal to keep our energies high. Once done with the meal we start the final ascent to Socialist Peak. This ascent will be steep and we will be making our way through gravel and rocky cliffs passing the Rhino Point. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek. Once at the summit, you will enjoy the magnificent views of the Meru Crater its Ash cone and the best sunrise from Mout Kilimanjaro.
From the summit descent down to Saddle
hut for lunch, Then we continuing straight down to Momella gate via Miriakamba hut.
At the gate PKsafaris driver will be waiting to pick you to the hotel for a de-briefing with one of our office staff. At the hotel you will have a have options of continuing to Mount Kilimanjaro , Safari or back to your personal plans the following day.
