Feel the Nile explode through a seven-metre gorge at Murchison Falls, then cruise calmer waters where hippos and crocodiles rule the banks. A compact three-day escape for travellers who want drama without a long itinerary. Highlights include a boat safari on the Nile, a hike to the top of the falls, game drives in Murchison, abundant birdlife and a lodge overlooking the river.
Depart the city after breakfast for the drive northwest to Murchison Falls National Park, with a Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary stop when schedules align. Arrive at your lodge for lunch and enjoy an afternoon game drive across Borassus-dotted savannah in search of giraffe, buffalo and elephant. Conclude the day with dinner overlooking the Nile as fishermen lamps flicker in the distance.
Early morning game drive toward the northern banks when predators are most active. Mid-morning board a boat toward the base of Murchison Falls to witness the sheer force, mist and rainbow spray. Disembark for the hike to the top of the falls where the entire Nile funnels through a rocky cleft. Spend the afternoon at leisure or take a second short drive, then experience the night soundtrack of hippo grunts and cascading water.
Optional dawn drive or bird walk at sunrise followed by breakfast. Depart toward Entebbe or Kampala with a packed lunch and be dropped off at your hotel or the airport as arranged. A short itinerary that leaves a long impression.
