Selous Game Reserves covers 6% of Tanzania’s total land and is appropriately 50,000sq km. Selous is Africa’s largest wildlife reserve and Tanzania’s most extensive protected area. Selous hosts a large number of elephants, a big population of buffaloes, lions, hippopotami, and crocodiles in the might of Rufiji River, and also has a rich variety of birdlife. You will be picked up from Dar es Salaam City and proceed to Selous Game Reserve (Nyerere National Park). It will take 4 hours. After arrival, you will have lunch and a short relaxation at the lodge. In the late afternoon, you will go on boat safaris along the mighty Rufiji River. You will discover the Rufiji River by boat and encounter hippos and crocodiles in good numbers. Some 350 species of bird have been recorded in Selous Game Reserve. You will have a full day in Selous Game Reserve exploring the reserve by 4-wheel drive vehicle dinner and an overnight stay at Selous Mloka Safari Lodge. The Selous Game Reserve is the largest in Africa, covering 53,600 square kilometers. The reserve gets its name from the hunter and explorer Frederick Courtney Selous. He was killed here during World War 1. Selous is famous for elephants, other species commonly seen are lions, wild dogs, buffalos, bushbucks, impalas, elands, baboons, zebras, and giraffes. After an early breakfast, you will have another day in Selous Game Reserves. You will start with an early morning walking safari, followed by a game drive with your picnic lunch. Walking safari will give you a particularly intimate feel for the African wilds. It starts in the morning with the guidance of an armed ranger and takes 2 hours before you meet the driver at the reserve gate. Walking safaris offer a good chance of seeing giraffes, zebras, elephants and good birding. Accommodation: Selous River Lodge.
