4-Day Rwanda Double Gorilla Trek & Golden Monkeys Tour

Your guide will pick you up at your hotel in Kigali or at the Kigali Airport and we will then take a guided Tour of Kigali. The tour will be tailored to your interests and can include visits to the Art Centers that are helping develop young artists in Rwanda, Local Markets, one of the Genocide Memorial Museums and/or other notable monuments and government buildings located around the city. You will have the opportunity to learn about Rwanda's history and to see just how impressive the Rwandan people are with the ability to recover after the Genocides. Today Rwanda is one of Africa's cleanest cities, which is experience amazing growth. After lunch (on your own) we will then drive through the winding hills of Rwanda to Volcanoes National Park. The Hotel is located between Musanze and the park in an area that provides spectacular views over the 5 volcanoes that run along the edge of the park.( Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel

We rise early for breakfast and prepare our packs before heading to the ranger station. On arrival the rangers will select the family in which you will be tracking, depending on your requests, the distance of the family, and your fitness level. We start with a short briefing with our lead ranger, who will go over the regulations as well as provide some information on the family members that you are about to meet. We then head into the dense forest on a hike that can be fairly easy or very demanding depending on the location of the gorilla family. The trek can range from 30 minutes to 5 hours, before we come into contact with the family. You will have up to 1 hour to enjoy this magical experience in close contact with the Gorillas. The youngsters are often playful and can even be a little curious, venturing rather close to visitors. We then hike back to the vehicle or ranger station, stopping to enjoy a packed lunch in the forest if you packed them and if the trek has been long.

We start again at dawn to prepare for a second encounter with the magnificent Mountain Gorilla. You will now have a better idea of what to expect and can discuss with your guide and the rangers more about what Family would be a good option for this trek. The biggest advantage of the second gorilla tracking is that you will be able to relax and enjoy the experience. You will already have a few good pictures from the first tracking. So now you can put the camera down and take full advantage of the time you have with the family. Again after one hour of close contact we will have to bid farewell. We hike back out of the forest, to our vehicle that awaits and then return back to the lodge.

After breakfast we will again return to the ranger station for a short briefing before we enter the forest in search of the rare Golden Monkey. These Golden Monkeys have been habituated to human presence, which allows you to enjoy their normal interactions in the wild. After one hour with the monkeys we return to the hotel for a shower and Lunch before making the drive back to Kigali. A day room or overnight hotel can be arranged at an additional cost.
