Sacred to Lord Shiva, the revered Ramanathaswamy Temple is one of the holiest sites for pilgrimage in India and a part of the Char Dham Yatra. According to legends, Lord Rama came to Rameswaram with Goddess Sita and worshipped Lord Shiva. Lord Hanuman went to Kailash Parvat to bring a lingam of Lord Shiva (presently installed in the temple).
