Package Overview

Why Lemosho Route?
The Lemosho Route is a newer and increasingly popular trail on Mount Kilimanjaro, known for its remote and scenic path that starts on the western side of the mountain. This route covers a total distance of 46 kilometers (28.5 miles) and offers climbers a journey through diverse climate zones, beginning in lush forests, Black and white colobus monkeys might be spotted along the way, ascend through alpine meadows, and reaching the arctic zone near Uhuru Peak, with the descent passing through the rainforest. One of the highlights includes Cathedral Peak, one of the highest points of the Shira Volcano. The Lemosho Route merges with the Machame Route at Lava Tower and continues via the Southern Circuit. Its longer duration allows for better acclimatization, contributing to its high summit success rate of 95%. The route’s breathtaking views and high summit success rate make it one of the most scenic and achievable climbs on Kilimanjaro, despite being slightly more expensive and longer than some other routes.

N.B:
Please note that the 8 days mentioned refer to the actual trekking days on the mountain. In addition, you need to account for 2 extra days—one for arrival and one for departure—making the total trip 10 days.

    ARRIVAL DAY

After completing customs formalities, you will proceed to the arrival area, where an Eagle Vision Safaris driver will be waiting with a sign displaying your booking name. After ensuring you have all your belongings, the driver will transfer you to your hotel or lodge. A rest day is recommended for jet lag recovery and acclimatization, along with a pre-trek briefing and gear check. If opting for a two-night stay, advance confirmation is required for budget adjustments.

The day begins early with breakfast at the hotel in Arusha/Moshi. After a 2-hour drive from the hotel to Londorossi Park Gate 2389m/7838ft, the trekker will complete entry formalities and register. The team driver will then take the team along a bumpy track through the dense rainforest to the drop-off point where the trek begins. As this region is also home to wild game, the team will be accompanied by an armed ranger during the first 2 days of your trek. Moreover, the trekker will hike a moderately steep, 6km track through an unspoiled natural forest, keeping an eye out for blue monkeys swinging through the trees. This trek, lasting 3-4 hours, leads the team to Mkubwa Camp 2785m/9137ft where the tent and personal belongings will be ready for waiting for the team.

The trail ascends from an elevation of 2785m (9137ft) to 3504m (11,496ft), gaining 719m in altitude. As you climb, the forest thins out, giving way to heath and moorland dominated by plants like Erica and lobelia. The Shira Plateau, one of the highest on earth, features exposed moorland meadows, strong winds, and temperatures that can drop below zero in the early hours. This trek transitions from the low-alpine zone to the high-alpine zone, providing an excellent acclimatization opportunity. The trekker will explore the Lent Hills with various walks available, potentially feeling symptoms of altitude sickness due to the high altitude. Upon reaching Moir Camp, surrounded by volcanic rock formations and rocky hills, the tent will be ready with the trekker belongings inside.
