Arusha City The city of Arusha is Tanzania’s safari capital. It is likely to be the start of your adventure to the most famous national parks of Tanzania. Dramatically set below Mount Meru, it has a real frontier atmosphere, with its chaotic roads lined with colorful little local shops. Like many towns in East Africa, Arusha is a mix of old buildings left over from the colonial era alongside an increasing number of modern and contemporary buildings. It features a myriad of interesting shops, bustling markets, exciting cultural events, vibrant night life and many bars and restaurants, providing plenty of fun experiences for travelers to Arusha. The semi-rural districts around the town include some lovely accommodation options, especially amongst the coffee plantations. Explore villages and farms on foot, visit the town and its busy central market, or just lie by the pool, catch up on some sleep and start a good book. Kilimanjaro National Park A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987, Kilimanjaro National Park encompasses the famous Mount Kilimanjaro. Standing at 5,895 meters/19,341 feet, Mount Kilimanjaro is the world’s tallest free-standing mountain. It has three distinct peaks, the highest of which, Kibo, is capped with glaciers and year-round snow. Kilimanjaro is an iconic part of the East African landscape, and every year, thousands of climbers come to attempt to reach the ‘roof of Africa’, using six official routes.
