Annapurna base camp trekking is the one of the famous and frequently done treks in Nepal which beats even the Everest treks in terms of popularity and the number of trekkers. We travel to the heart of the Annapurna Himalayan ranges, which is a massif in the Himalayas in north-central Nepal that includes one peak over 8,000 meters, thirteen peaks over 7,000 meters and sixteen more over 6,000 meters. This journey leads us to the base of world's tenth highest mountain, Mt. Annapurna and the journey is thrilling beyond words.
What makes this trek so famous is the daily dose of incredible views of nature while we explore the mid hills. On our way we pass through the inhabitation of the Gurung and Magar tribes and pass through the enchanting rhododendron forests. The most popular Poon Hills are a part of this captivating journey, which is the best vantage point for observing stunning Himalayan ranges from pretty up close. Sunrise and sunset from this point is a sight which only the heart can fathom.
No previous trekking experience is required for this trek. Preferable time to undertake this trek is during the spring and autumn season. Anyone one of us trying to describe this trek here in a few paragraphs will never do justice to what actually awaits us! Day 1 : Arrival in Kathmandu
As you touch down in Kathmandu, you are welcomed by the Scouts of Nepal, part of the ScoutMyTrip family. After transfer to the hotel, we leave you to explore the place and meet again at dinner. After the formal introduction and trip briefing we end the night with a live cultural program.
Day 2 : Drive to Pokhara
Next day we set out for a mesmerizing drive in the hills to reach Pokhara. You can opt for a flight transfer but the scenic beauty during the drive is something you would not want to miss. During the drive we catch a glimpse of the Mt. Machapuchare (meaning fish tail in local dialect). As we near the Pokhara valley, the reflection of Himalayan ranges in the crystal clear water of Phewa Lake is sure to make you hold our breath. A cherry on the cake, our hotel transfer to the hotel is by boats as we row away in the dreamy yet real Phewa Lake.
Day 3 : Drive to Nayapul and Trek to Ulleri
We begin our first day of trek on this day. We slowly make our way to reach the dreamy land of Nayapul. There onwards we start trekking uphill to reach Birethanti. As we pass through sleepy villages, meadows and trees, we reach Tikhedhunga where we stop for a scrumptious lunch. Stone houses and quaint little shops selling local wares is the common scenery we pass on our trek. With the local tribes smiling at us almost all along our trek, especially the Magar tribe, which is the main settlement in this area, we arrive at Ulleri, our final destination.
Day 4 : Trek to Ghorepani
We wake up to another mesmerizing sunrise and make arrangements for a five hour trek. This day we ascend to reach Ghorepani village, a dreamy village set right out of a fairy tale. The backdrop is set with the view of the world’s seventh highest mountain, Mt. Dhaulagiri and its ranges, Annapurna South and Vara-Shikar. Ghorepani is well known for being the hiking point to Poon Hill, a view point offering super wide angle views of the world’s third highest peaks and other mountains. You are very likely to witness a surreal sunset from this point.
Day 5 : Trek to Tadapani
On this day, we recommend waking up in the wee hours, if you want to witness the snow peaked mountain ranges being bathed in every shade of orange, yellow and red until the sun finally rises to paint the sky. We start our hike before dawn to Poon Hill, set at a height of 3,210 meters. After we have let nature amaze you enough with the panoramic mountain views, it is time to get back to the lodge and continue another day of trek. We reach Tadapani for the overnight haul.
Day 6 : Trek to Sinuwa
We start in the morning and after a few hours of trek, we reach Chhomrong village. After a short break we continue trek uphill until we arrive at Sinuwa, set at a height of 2,340 meters. This day our walk could be a bit strenuous for some of us as compared to the treks of the past days.
Day 7 : Trek to Deurali
Out trek on this day leads us into the cool, thick forests with small streams gushing by as we tread uphill. This forest is located by the Modi River and has an ample vegetation of bamboo, rhododendron and oak trees. The path leads us to the heart of the Himalayas and vegetation becomes sparse. We finally arrive at Deurali and stay put for the night.
Day 8 : Trek to Annapurna Base Camp
Here comes the main highlight of our journey, as this day we begin our trek to the Annapurna base camp, at an altitude of 4,130 meters. Annapurna area was first explored by British Adventurer Col. James O.M. 'Jimmy' Roberts in 1956 and exposed to the world as the 'Sanctuary of Gods'. The Sanctuary has been christened as "Annapurna Sanctuary" ever since. After arriving at the base Camp we leave you to explore your surroundings and lose yourself in the lap of Nature.
Day 9 : Trek to Bamboo
A sunset before the dusk, a night under the star lit sky at Annapurna base camp and a surreal sunrise in the morning thereafter, we start our descend to reach Deurali. Our downhill trek will get us back into the tree lines. We make our overnight stop at Bamboo.
Day 10 : Trek to Jhinu Danda
This day we arrive at Chhomrong village situate at an altitude of 1,700 meters and stop for a mouthwatering lunch along the way. From Chhomrong, we take a 20 minute detour to a ridge and spot enthralling hot springs along the way. We finally trek our way to reach Jhinu Danda.
Day 11 : Trek to Nayapul and Drive to Pokhara
As all good things come to an end, we come to the end of our soul-filling journey. After reaching Nayapul, we bring our scenic drive back to reach Pokhara. We keep this day free to relax and rejuvenate in the lap of nature before we embark on our return journey.
Day 12 : Drive back to Kathmandu
We take a head start to arrive early to Kathmandu. Explore the streets and browse through the local ware to carry back gifts and souvenirs for our dear ones. We can ask our guide to take the interested trekkers to explore the local area in details, for people who are up to it. With the farewell dinner served, we are ready to make a homeward journey with a heart full of memories and a mind rich with experiences.
Day 13 : International Flight
This day is our last day in Nepal after the magnificent Annapurna trek. We end this journey with a truck load of memories and experiences for a flight back home. The journey ends here and we hope to see you soon again in another adventure where we can take you #AageSeRight.
