Things To Carry With You

  • Here’s a checklist of things to carry with you before embarking on the Bhrigu Lake Trek.
  • Backpack (40-60 liters): Do carry a backpack with a capacity of around 40-60 liters. It should come with a strong supporting frame and sturdy straps. Rain cover for the backpack is a must.
  • Trekking shoes: Don’t get confused between the sports shoes and trekking shoes. The trail is slippery at several places and thus, requires shoes with good grip and ankle support. Thus, you should go for trekking shoes.
  • Daypack (20 liters): Since this is a crossover trek, you would definitely need a daypack if you are offloading your backpack.

Clothes

  • Keep in mind that on a trek, carry fewer clothes than you would normally need. Packing for ‘what if situations’ will only add to the weight of your backpack. It won’t be used on the trek. Once your clothes get warmed up on a trek, you will not feel like changing. You only have to maintain personal hygiene.
  • 2-3 trek pants: Don’t overburden yourself with jeans, as they are not suitable for trekking. Carry light cotton trek pants. You can choose to wear one of your pants as an inner layer while trekking.
  • 2-3 layers of warm clothes: Keep a padded jacket and two sweaters. If you are more prone to the cold climatic conditions, carry an extra layer.
  • Thermals: Thermals work wonders in hilly areas. Carry thermals (top and bottom) to keep yourself warm at night. Don’t wear them while trekking.
  • 2-3 collared t-shirts: Keep light, preferably quick-drying, full sleeved t-shirts to avoid sunburns on the neck and arms. Wear two t-shirts for more insulation, if you want to. Carrying a quick-dry t-shirt is a must. A common mistake that trekkers make is that they don’t change their t-shirts often. Regardless of how cold it is, the body tends to sweat a lot and thus, trekkers may fall ill. Thus, the changing of t-shirts shouldn’t be avoided.

Accessories

  • Sunglasses protect your eyes from extreme conditions.
  • The sun is extra harsh at high altitude. So don’t forget to carry a cap.
  • Instead of the woolen gloves, keep synthetic hand gloves. As the former ones get wet if you touch the snow.
  • In addition to the two pairs of sports socks, you can take a pair of woolen socks for the night.
  • Keep Balaclava with you always.
  • LED torch and trekking stick are mandatory.

Others

  • Trekkers should bring their own cutlery and coffee mug for hygiene reasons.
  • Pack essential Toiletries like Sunscreen, moisturizer, lip balm, light towel, toilet paper, toothpaste, toothbrush, hand sanitizer, etc.
  • Do not carry wet wipes and sanitary napkins since these are not biodegradable. If you do happen to use them, carry a zip lock bag to bring the used items back with you.
  • Carry your own water bottles.
  • Keep plastic bags with you.
