Tour Travel World

Package Overview

This safari to Mt Meru, Samburu and Masai Mara combines one of Africa’s greatest conservation projects with one of the world’s most spectacular wilderness areas. The trip is stylish, personal and uses a combination of very different camps in spectacular settings. Activities range from day and night game drives to excellent guided walks that follow tracks through abundant game areas, balloon safaris are also worth considering here. The guides are knowledgeable and experienced and if you choose the dry season, you could be in the Mara watching wildebeest thunder right past your tent.

Elsa’s Kopjes - Named for Elsa, the orphaned lioness reared by George and Joy, this private hideaway is perched on top of Mugwongo Hill, the site of George Adamson’s first camp. This park is renowned for its low rainfall, yet at the same time thirteen rivers and numerous streams run off the nearby mountains to provide an arid landscape laced with ribbons of green. From your cottage you will enjoy a 270-degree view of the surrounding park with its scattered kopjes and mysterious baobab trees. The open plan rooms are individually designed, incorporating the rocks into the structure. Traditional African-made furniture, bright ikat fabrics and whitewashed walls are simple yet superbly comfortable and stylishly effective. There is a swimming pool and walks are accompanied by a knowledgeable naturalist. The food is of a very high standard and the service is excellent.

Larsen’s Tented Camp - The experience at Larsen’s Tented Camp will contrast immensely in surroundings and the types of wildlife you will see. The camp is set in lush lawns on the bank of the Uaso Nyiro River, a life line for the Samburu National Reserve. Tranquillity and nature embrace you the minute you enter Larsen’s with the river being the perfect stage for an endless pageant of wildlife - elephants rolling and trumpeting in the shallows, timid impala nervously drinking, baboons and vervet monkeys swinging through the canopy of trees. An animal viewing platform in a tree lets you scan the vast Samburu plain. Inclusive of game drives, champagne breakfasts on the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River, sunset cocktails in the wild, bird walks and black tie dinners in the dining tent, Larsen’s is the place to be. There are 20 spacious en-suite airy tents all raised on wooden platforms, each named after a bird. The tents reflect colonial elegance; hot showers and a surprising degree of comfort with towelling gowns in the tent and comfortable leather safari chairs. The dining tent is open on three sides and faces the river. A first class dinner elegantly served by candlelight on tables set with silver and Larsen’s china.

Elephant Pepper Camp is situated in the prime core of the protected Mara North Conservancy wilderness area. A small boutique camp, the spacious canvas tents are stylishly furnished with Indian “Raj campaign furniture”, and feature ensuite bathrooms with flush toilets and traditional safari showers.
Nothing rivals sitting around the campfire enjoying the sounds of the African night. Enjoying extended game drives in the best equipped 4×4 game drive vehicles, guests participate in the most unique wildlife experience in the world. Elephant Pepper Camp brings people back to nature - no traffic, no permanent structures, just the sights and sounds of the African bush. The stay at Elephant Pepper Camp will be filled with day and night game drives as well as bush meals, bush walks and an opportunity to visit a Maasai village.

OR, alternative Masai Mara accommodation:

Located on the banks of a river from which it has taken its name, Sand River Camp is located within the Masai Mara National Reserve, close to the Tanzanian border. Situated on a secluded and picturesque site, the Camp replicates the heyday of exclusive permanent tented camps of the late 1920’s. The interior fixtures and furnishings mirror this period perfectly, reminding all who visit of those countless Hollywood movies that have paid homage to a classic era of African adventure. Sand River Masai Mara is an ideal destination, at any time of the year, for those wishing to enjoy exceptional game-viewing. The National Reserve is best known for its large concentrations of big cats, such as leopard, cheetah and, of course, lion. Even the dramatic arrival of the Annual Migration merely adds to an already abundant resident wildlife that awaits discovery. Sand River Masai Mara will continue to demonstrate all the qualities that have made the Elewana Collection the premier choice in East Africa. With carefully crafted interior designs, exceptional standards of service and a sublime and carefully chosen location providing optimal access to the wildlife, Sand River Masai Mara Camp will surely become the standard to surpass. The Camp comprises of 16-tented accommodations, divided into two separate but adjoining campsites, with each area possessing its own designated dining and public areas, thereby creating an increased sense of exclusivity and privacy.
