Hampta Pass is a very beautiful sight and a dramatic trek. At 14,000 feet, it is one of the good height mountain passes in the Himalayas. Hampta Pass is the Himachal's Harshil Valley. The landscape bears a striking resemblance to that of the Valley of Flowers—a green, narrow valley sheltered by snow-capped mountains but there's a bonus. Dense pine forests, endless green meadows, gurgling mountain streams, vibrant wildflowers, daunting mountains, beautiful valleys, calm lakes and pools. On one side is the lush green Kullu Valley – with forests, pastures and flowers blooming on the side of your trail. On the other side is the almost arid, austere landscape of Lahaul with barren mountains and almost no vegetation. The entire route of the Hampta Pass trek is littered with everything you can dream of witnessing on the trek. When you reach the other side of Hampta Pass, you will be amazed at the stark contrast of what you have just left behind. The landscape that stretches before you is the Spiti Valley, known for its barren stretches, rugged terrain and forget-me-not blue skies.
At its highest point, the Himalayas seem to have opened up their deepest secrets for tourists to glimpse. But the journey is not over yet. The dynamic experience continues on the descent to Shea Gore. Here you will find the most challenging part of the trek – a steep descent along narrow, rocky paths. The final treat for the eyes and soul on this trek is Chandratal Lake. It is nestled between the lofty peaks of Pirpanjal
at an altitude of 4250 meters.

Day wise Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrive at Manali. Drive to Jobra Roadhead, and Trek to Chika via Jobra

Drive Duration: 10- 11 hours, Drive Distance: 220 km
Trek distance: 2.2 km, Trek Duration: 1 hours
Altitude: 9,379 ft
Highlight:
The base camp for the Hampta Pass trek is Jobra village. Scenic drive from Manali.
From the road leading to Jobra, the campsite is a 30-minute trek through a mixed forest of pines, bright green maples and shimmering silver birch.
It is an easy slope and after 30 to 40 minutes into the forest, Camp overnight in the meadows to better acclimatise.

Day 2 : Chika to Balu ka Ghera

Trek distance: 8.7 km, Trek Duration: 6 hours
Altitude: 12,450 ft
Highlight:
Today's trek starts from Chika and takes you through pastures and rocky paths, after crossing several streams to the next place & Scenic views start from the start of the day.
The trail leads from pastures which are basically plain pastures in the pre-monsoon season, but in the post-monsoon season, these pastures are covered with beautiful colourful wildflowers all over.
Towards the end, you reach the destination of the day – Balu Ka Ghera or sand bed. The soil is formed primarily of sand and dust brought by the river.

Day 3 : Balu ka Ghera to Shea Goru via Hampta Pass

Trek distance: 7 km, Trek Duration: 6 hours

Highlight:
The ascent from Balu ka Ghera is the most serious climb you face on the entire trek. Today's trek is the final ascent to Hampta Pass, but that's not all, descend further to
Shea ghoru is a challenging task in itself.
The initial walk begins with a gradually increasing gradient and takes you to a flat area that looks like a vast beautiful lake, not exactly a lake and not even half a foot deep.
After an hour of gentle climbing in an area prone to rockfall, the climb picks up. This is the first serious slope you will encounter. After half an hour of climbing, you will reach the first platform. Here you will see Deo Tibba peak right in front of you.
The climb to Hampta Pass, which is moderately steep, is followed by a steep descent to Shea Gore. At the top of the pass, you'll want to take a small break to make it your goal to reach the pass
have lunch there by lunch and then start the descent.
Shea Goru is almost straight from here. It should be an easy walk, although some may find it tiring after a long day of traversing the pass.
You don't want to dehydrate and spoil your way to the top on this final climb to 4,270 meters.

Day 4 : Shea Goru to Chatru (Visit Chandrataal and back to Manali)

Drive Distance: 48 km, Drive Duration: 2 hour
Altitude: 13,943 ft
Highlight:
The trek will start early this day after reaching our campsite which is not more than 2 hours away. We will take advantage of the trip with a sightseeing trip to Chandrataal Lake.
The trail is an easy descent to Chatru, the last camp near the road connecting Manali to Kaza.
This stream has to be crossed at this freezing hour, the low water level and also the weak current of the water make the morning hours the best time to cross the stream. Ice-cold water is unavoidable, although it does no harm and will add another thrilling experience to your trek memories.
Take some rest and freshen up as we will then drive to Chandratal Lake and return to Chhatru Camp.

Day 5 : Chatru to Manali

Trek distance: 64 km, Trek Duration: 2.5 hours
Altitude: 6,725 ft
Highlight:
This will be the last day in Kullu Valley and accordingly return transport will be arranged for the tourists we will bid farewell to the amazing Spiti Valley and head back to Manali.
It is about 64 km from Chhatra to Manali which will take 3.5 hours in Manali.

Best Time To Visit

Summer: Hampta Pass is good during the summer season from April to mid-June. The calm and pleasant summer sun and evening make the trek more pleasant.
Monsoon: In monsoon, the trek route is muddy and slippery. It is better to avoid risky places trekking in this season.
Spring: The spring month or Pre-winter is considered the best time to trek Hampta Pass. Trekking is fun with lush greenery all around and calm weather.
Winter: Hampta Pass is good in winter because you get a snow-covered trail.
