No spiritual journey can ever be considered complete without a visit to Haridwar, one of the holiest pilgrimage sites for Hindus. Literally meaning 'the abode of Lord Vishnu', Haridwar, located in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, is a land of legends and myths. Considered as one of the seven holiest cities in India, Haridwar sees millions of people flock to it every year to pay their respects to the Lord, or to wash away their sins.
Rishikesh also spelt Hrishikesh, Rushikesh, or Hrushikesh is a city and a municipal board in Dehradun district in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is a holy city for Hindus and a famous centre of pilgrimage.
It is also known as the gateway to the Himalayas and is located around 25 kilometres away from another holy city, Haridwar. Rishikesh is the starting point for travelling to the sites that form the Char Dham pilgrimage — Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri.
Guarded on either side by the two mountains Nar and Narayan, the Neelkanth Peak provides a splendid backdrop to Badrinath, one of the ‘Four Dhams’. One of the most celebrated pilgrim spots in the country, it plays host to the famous Badrinath Temple. Legend has it that Lord Vishnu came to the area, called ‘Badri Van’, or the berry garden, to meditate after Narad rebuked the Lord for being immersed in worldly pleasures. The main deity is a meditating Lord Vishnu.
Located at a distance of 35 kms from Dehradun, Mussoorie is a wonderful hill station in Uttarakhand situated at a height of 2005 pts above the sea level. It is situated at the foothills of the Himalayas and is known as the Queen of the Hills.
Mussoorie is one of the top hill stations in India, famous for a weekend getaway, honeymoon destinations, Himalayan views and Mall Road.
