After having breakfast at your hotel, you will be provided with short briefing about the starting day. You will drive two hours from Arusha to Londorossi Park Gate. At Londorossi Gate, you will be provided with a packed lunch and you can buy mineral water for the trek. Then the last 45 minutes of the drive heading up to the gate will be on a bumpy forest track requiring 4WD vehicles to the entrance gate where you will be registered ready for starting. You are now ready to begin your 3-hour hike into the rain forest. Be on the viewpoint for Colobus monkeys! Along the way, you will stop for an afternoon lunch break and arrive at Mti Mkubwa (“Big Tree”) Campsite in the early evening. The porters will prepare your tent and boil water for drinking and washing. The cook will make a snack then dinner for you. During night time, temperature on mountain may drop to freezing so be equipped to overcome it.

After a timely morning breakfast, you will start your ascent out of the rainforest and into the heather moorland zone. You will go through numerous streams and walk over a plateau that leads to Shira 2 Camp. You will be right in front to a stream at this camp and have a spectacular view of the Western Breach and its glaciers in the East. Related to the first night, your tents will prepare earlier to arrive at camp and the crew will prepare drinking and washing water for you. You will like evening snacks then dinner prepared by our cook. Be ready for a cold night as temperatures drop below freezing at this bare camp.

Habitat: Semi desert
After an early morning breakfast, you will leave the moorland surroundings and go in the semi desert and rocky landscape. After 5 hours of walking east, you will be come face to face with the Lava Tower. Packed lunches are served at the Tower and climbers have the choice of hiking the huge Lava Tower weather permitting. At this point of the trek, it is usual for hikers to start feeling the effects from the altitude including headaches and shortness of breath.
Later after lunch, you will descend from Lava Tower to the Barranco Campsite. The descent gives hikers a huge advantage to allow their bodies to regulate to the conditions of high altitude. The descent to camp takes around 2 hours for walking to reach. It is located in a valley below the Breach and Great Barranco Wall famous as the breakfast wall. Drinking and washing water and dinner will be served as climbers view the sun setting.

Habitat: Alpine desert
This is a short mountaineering day intended for acclimatization. Later after an early morning breakfast, it is now time to overcome the Great Barranco Wall. Though it may look intimidating at first look, hikers’ state that. This Class 2 hike is frequently much easier than they expected. At the top of the Wall, you will have a sight of Heim Glacier and will be above the clouds. The trail then winds up and down in the Karanga Valley. You will spend the night at Karanga Camp and enjoy dinner and washing at the site.

Distance: Approximately 4 kilometers
Habitat: Alpine desert
Immediately after breakfast, you will leave Karanga Camp. The trail crosses with the Mweka Route, which is the trail used to go downhill on the final two days. As you continue mountaineering for an hour, you will reach Barafu Hut. This is the last water stop for the porters because there is no nearby water at Barafu Camp. This camp is situated on a rocky, open ridge. Tents will be exposed to wind and rocks so it is vital for climbers to publicize themselves with the campsite before dark. A prompt dinner will be provided so climbers can rest before attempting the summit the same night. Your guide will brief you in fact on the way to organize yourself for summit night.

Hiking time: 8 hours to reach Uhuru Peak, 7-8 hours to descend to Mweka
Distance: Approximately 7 kilometers ascent and 23 kilometers descent
Habitat: Stone scree and ice-capped summit
You will wake up at midnight, and after some tea and biscuits you get off into the night. You will head in a north-westerly direction and ascend through heavy scree in the direction of Stella Point on the crater rim. For many climbers, this 6-hour walks to Stella point is mentally and physically the most exciting on the route. At Stella Point you will break for a short rest and will be compensated with the most outstanding sunrise you are ever likely to see. From Stella Point you will generally come across snow all the way on your 2-hour ascent to Uhuru Peak. The time you will spend on the summit will be contingent on the weather conditions. You are advised not to stay for too long at this point, as it will be very problematic to start again due to cold and fatigue. Enjoy your accomplishment and a day to reminisce for the rest of your life. The journey back to Barafu from the peak will be about 3 hours of walking. The route is not tough and will take you descend down the rock and scree path into the moorland and finally into the forest. The camp is located in the higher forest and mist or rain can be probable in the late afternoon. Dinner and washing water will be ready.

After having a well-earned breakfast, your team will have a big festival full of dancing and singing. It is here on the mountain that you will provides your tips to the guide, assistant guides, chef(s), and porters. After the festival, you will proceed for three hours back to Mweka Gate. The National Park needs all climbers to sign their names to get certificates of completion. Climbers who reached Stella Point get green certificates and climbers who reached Uhuru Peak get gold certificates. After getting certificates, climbers will descend into the Mweka village. You will be provided with a hot lunch then you will drive back to Arusha.
