Lumba Sumba Trek is a new trekking route running through Kanchenjunga and Makalu Conservation Area in the eastern Himalayan region, in which Lumba Sumba Peak (5200m) is a major attraction. This trek offers the most spectacular Himalayan landscapes, the route encompasses alpine grasslands, rocky outcrops, dense temperate and subtropical forests, and low river valleys. There are also a number of high mountain lakes in Olangchung Gola, and the Tamor and Arun River systems are another attraction for tourists. These two rivers are the major tributaries of the mighty Sapta Koshi River. On the way, trekkers may also come across different birds and wildlife species, including the endangered snow leopard and red panda along the route. Apart from natural beauty, on the Lumba Sumba pass trek, trekkers can also explore cultural heritage including monasteries, chortens, temples, prayer walls, and any local festivals that may be taking place. Day wise Itinerary

  • Day 1 : FLIGHT FROM KATHMANDU - BHADRAPUR (93 M) 45 MINUTES FLIGHT THEN DRIVE TO TAPLEJUNG (1820 M)

    Early in the morning, we take our flight to Bhadrapur from Kathmandu with a scenic view of the Eastern region. After 45 minutes of flight, we reach the Bhardrapur airport then we will take a car/jeep from Bhadrapur for Illam/Taplejunga which will take Approx 8 hours of drive. We will stop in the beautiful tea garden of Illam also known as the garden of Nepal for our lunch. After our Lunch, we will descend upward from Illam for our overnight stay in Taplejung.

  • Day 2 : TAPLEJUNG - RANIPUL/LELEP (1740 M) DRIVE BY PRIVATE JEEP 5 HRS

    Today we will drive after breakfast and head towards the Mitlung/Sinuwa by crossing the small river over the suspension bridge. Then our trail descends down to Tamor Riverwalk through villages and terraced fields. Some irregular villages give us an opportunity to meet local people. Upon arriving at Tamor River, we follow some narrow trails close to the river. Then a gradual uphill trail through the terraced fields and a few houses take to the village of Ranipul.

  • Day 3 : Trek Lelep to Ela danda (2150 m)

    After breakfast, the trek runs along the bank of the Tamor River through dense forest that offers good habitat for different wildlife species. We cross a suspension bridge after a walk of about an hour from Lelep then it is an uphill climb through a pine forest for about half an hour until we reach a monastery. From there, the trek gradually descends after about half an hour and we reach Gowatar (1800m) for lunch. Gowatar is a small settlement with a few houses. Near the village, there is a big stone and it is believed that only the religious people can move them. After a walk of around half an hour from Gowatar, we reach a place that offers spectacular views of two waterfalls about 100 meters tall.

  • Day 4 : Trek Ela Danda to Selep Kharka (2525 m)

    Today the walk is pleasant as it passes through Ulnus and Rhododendron forest for about an hour until we reach a suspension bridge. After crossing the suspension bridge, the trek passes through dense bamboo groves. This place is popular among trekkers as it is the habitat of the red panda. If you are lucky, we might catch sight of the red panda! We reach Maguwa (2435m) for lunch. After lunch, the trail passes through maple and Ulnus forest. There is a big landslide on the way before we reach Selep Kharka(2525m).

  • Day 5 : Trek Selep Kharka to Olangchung Gola (3210 m)

    Today we trek along the banks of the Tamor River leading to a place called Jongim, a flat land surrounded by snow-capped hills. After a walk of about 2hrs, we reach a suspension bridge. Then we climb uphill from the suspension bridge and reach Ramite (2685m) for lunch. We continue the ascending walk, then we catch the first glimpse of Olangchung Gola from the waterfall. After a climb of about 40 minutes, we finally reach the camping site.

    Olangchung Gola is a beautiful Sherpa village with around 45 houses, a 465 years old monastery with a golden manuscript, and a KCAP office.

  • Day 6 : Trek Olangchung Gola to Upper Langmale Kharka (3890 m)

    The trek from today onwards will pass through complete wilderness. The trek passes through pine and rhododendron forests. After a walk of two and a half hours, we reach a place called Jadak (3630m) for lunch. Then we walk of other valleys towards Lumba Samba for three hours on rhododendron and mixed forests and take us to our camping site at Upper Langmale.

  • Day 7 : Trek Upper Langmale Kharka to Pass Camp (4750 m)

    The trek can be interesting today as snow leopards have been sighted numerous times on this trek. The trek runs along the small riverside lies dense rhododendron forest. After a walk of about three hours, we reach Tangchetar (4200m) for lunch.

  • Day 8 : Trek Pass camp to Yak Kharka (4590 m)

    This would be the most difficult yet most memorable day of this trek. Today the trek will pass through the Lumba Sumba Pass (5200m). It is better to start early as it will be difficult to cross the pass afternoon. After a walk of about four and half hours from Pass Camp, we reach the Lumba Sumba Pass which offers panoramic Himalayan views of eastern Nepal including the Kanchenjunga, Jannu Himal, and Makalu ranges.

  • Day 9 : Trek Yak Kharka to Thudam (3500 m)

    The trek is downhill from Yakkharka as we arrive at civilization after a tiring walk for three days. A walk of about 6 hours takes us to Thudam for the village. Thudam is a small isolated village with around 30 houses Sherpa people.

  • Day 10 : Trek Thudam to Kharka (2875 m)

    Today the trek runs along the bank of Chujung Khola. The trail offers a panoramic view of peaks in the Makalu range. On the way, you will see a lot of small bushes and bamboo groves - the best habitat for the red panda. After walking through many ups and downs we reach Kharka for the camp tonight.

  • Day 11 : Trek Kharka to Chyamthang (2230 m)

    The trail passes through dense rhododendron forest. As there are no villages on the way and also there are numerous side trails. After a walk of about three hours from Kharka, we reach a place called Chaurikharka for lunch. From Chaurikharka, we can clearly see Chyamtang, Arun River. After lunch, the trail heads downhill for about three hours until we reach Arun River. After crossing the suspension bridge over the Arun, the trek is uphill for about an hour until Chyamthang.

  • Day 12 : Trek Chyamthang to Hatiya (1560 m)

    The trail passes through the rhododendron forest from Chyamthang and takes us to Gimber Village for lunch. Gimber Village offers a spectacular view of snowcapped peaks in the Makalu range. From Gimber, the walk is easy and after a trek of about three hours, we reach Hatiya for the night's stay. Hatiya - a small village of Bhote people.

  • Day 13 : Trek Hatiya to Gola (1410 m)

    The trek runs along the banks of the Arun River today. After a walk of about two and a half hours from Hatiya, we reach the confluence of the Arun and Barun rivers. After having lunch near the river confluence, the trek progressed toward Gola - our destination for the day.

  • Day 14 : Trek Gola to Ghadi (1800 m)

    The trek passes through paddy fields we are at the lowlands now. The walk is pleasing as the trail makes a short descent but again makes a short climb. After a walk of about two and half hours from Gola, we reach Pathibhara for lunch. The trail after lunch passes through agricultural land and we can find plenty of water sources and small settlements along the way. We reach Gadhi for our destination of the day.

  • Day 15 : Trek Gadhi to Num and drive to Tumlingtar (400 m)

    This is the last day of our trek. From Gadhi, the trek is about an hour downhill to the Arun River. After crossing the river, an uphill climb of about 2 hours takes us to the Num village. As Num is linked with a road, we will take a jeep to Tumlingtar. A drive of around 4 hours on a dirt road takes us to Tumlingtar where there is an airstrip.

  • Day 16 : Fly back to Kathmandu (1340 m) 35 minutes Hotel

    After breakfast, we fly back to Kathmandu and then transfer to the hotel. Free afternoon in Kathmandu.

Terms & Conditions

  • Booking Contract
  • You will receive an official confirmation via email or a letter handed over to you by our representative at any of our offices once you confirm the bookings. Please check the letter carefully and report any information that might be incorrect or incomplete. Make sure to use your Passport names for the booking to avoid confusion. Refunds or discounts will not be entertained unless officially agreed upon beforehand.
  • Securing the booking
  • A 100% payment of the total cost of the trip per person should be made to secure the booking. Following conditions must be considered for the deposit:
  • Clients should read and accept the risks involved in the adventure activity chosen.
  • Pre-existing medical conditions should be informed.
  • Clients should have read and accepted all the Booking Conditions and General information pages.
  • The person making the booking should be of minimum 16 years of age and should have full authority to enter into a contract on the basis of these conditions
  • Booking on behalf of others
  • If you are making the booking on behalf of other participants, we will need a warrant that you have obtained their consent. As their representative, you will be our contact person and will hence be responsible for full payments of the travel package and/or additional activities purchased. You will also be responsible for keeping your party informed about the trip.
  • Please make sure the information you provide is complete and accurate. The Tour Operator will not be responsible for issues caused by misinformation.
  • Payments
  • Any due amount with Mount Adventure Holidays must be cleared within 48 hours from the time of booking made. We reserve the right to treat your booking as canceled if the payment is not cleared within a specified period.
  • Booking changes
  • Booking changes are welcomed free of charge up to 60 days ahead of departure. The changes are however subject to the availability of the packages. Under reasonable conditions, in case you are unable to travel, the booking can be transferable to another person. But make sure to do it 60 days ahead of your departure. All costs or charges incurred must be cleared out before making the transfer. For flight inclusive bookings, the airline charges should be paid in accordance with the airline involved.
  • Booking cancellations
  • Cancellation before 45+ days of departure will be done free of charge.
  • Cancellations made between 30-44 days ahead of departure will be subject to a loss of 30% of the total trip price.
  • Cancellations made between 15-29 days ahead of departure will be subject to a loss of 60% of the total trip price.
  • No refunds will be entertained for cancellations made 14 days ahead of departure
  • Medical information
  • Kindly disclose all relevant medical conditions to the Tour Operator that need to be considered while on the trip. For adventure activities, medical forms are to ensure your condition does not impact your ability to travel to remote areas or need constant medical assistance. It is for your own safety and the Tour Operator ensures compliance with the Privacy Policy to keep your information safe.
  • Pregnant women are advised to consult their doctors before taking up a trip. Please take the expert’s advice before applying. If there are any precautions to be taken during the trip, please inform the Tour Operator at the time of booking.
  • Make sure to take or carry any necessary medications before or during the trip, as advised by your doctor.
  • Any potential allergies to food or plants and dietary restrictions among others should be mentioned. In case of misinformation or lack of information, the Tour Operator will not liable.
  • Other requirements
  • If you have any special requirements please share them with the Tour Operator at the time of booking so responsible efforts can be carried out in order to accommodate your special requirements and requests as long as the locations and resources allow.
  • Age requirements
  • Anyone under the age of 16 will be considered a minor and should always be accompanied by an adult. One adult may accompany up to two minors. The minimum age for traveling for minors is 12 years.
  • Booking of minors is subject to review on the part of the Tour Operator. If consent on part of a parent or a guardian is required, then it should be provided as per the rules and regulations. The adult associated with the minor is fully responsible for the behavior, wellbeing, and supervision of the activities of the minor. The tour operator does not provide care services for minors.
  • Insurance requirements
  • Clients must process travel insurance with medical, evacuation, and repatriation coverage of about 200,000 US dollars. The insurance must cover injury and emergency medical needs and rescue operations for a trek that goes above 4000m. The Tour Operator will verify if you have sufficient insurance in place. Clients are also strongly recommended to extend the coverage to include curtailment, cancellation, delay, inconvenience, injury, and delay while traveling.
  • Insurance coverage is not included in the cost of any adventure activity and must be obtained separately.
  • Change of price & taxes
  • The published price of the Tour and services offered by the Tour Operator is subject to change anytime within 30 days before departure. The Tour operator reserves the right to impose extra service charges from the one mentioned in the booking details. If the increase in price is greater than 10% of the original price you can:
  • Choose to cancel the applicable booking without any penalty.
  • Accept the change of price.
  • Possible reduced pricing can be available on certain products or bookings. Bookings, where payment of the deposit has already been obtained, are not entitled to reduce pricing.
  • Airfare
  • Tour prices do not include the international and other airfares unless explicitly mentioned in the descriptions of the concerned tour. The Tour Operators act only as a sales agent in the air carrier.
  • Trip participation and client responsibility
  • You agree to accept the decisions made by the Tour Operator and you agree that all decisions made are on the part of your health, level of fitness, and conduct. Tour operators will bear no costs incurred as a result of the exclusion and no refund shall be provided for unused services. Please make sure to carry all appropriate documents along with you when taking part in the tour. It is mandatory that you carry a valid passport, all travel documents required by the relevant governmental authorities, visas, permits, certificates, and insurance policies. You have the full responsibility of obtaining these documents and the cost incurred as a result of the loss of these documents.
