Wiang Kum Kam was established as the pivotal riverside trading hub of his kingdom by King Mangrai, after severe flooding overtook a previous site. A moat was dug around all four sides of the city and an extensive royal Palace was built. Then priority was given to construction of a market-place. Many boats converged on the city for purposes of trade. Pleased, King Mangrai ordered the building of imposing Kuu Kham temple (Wat Jedei Liam) for public veneration. Power-seeking expedition by the King let to peace offering from neighboring states: firstly, a beatifuyl royal bride and the came hundreds of expert crafts-men-goldsmiths, bronze smiths, iron smiths etc. In thanks for this good fortune, significant temples were built.
ITINERARY
Pickup from your hotel in Chiang Mai before your departure time 15-20 min.
Pleasant 20 minute journey down river aboard spacious new and comfortable teak –Fitted cruise boat.
Tour (subject to government restriction) by horse and carriage to Wiang Kum Kam museum.
Horse and carriage through Thawangtan Village to view historical temple remains.
Return to local hut for complimentary refreshments a chance to samplelocal fresh and herb juices.
Relaxed boat journey back to town and return to your hotel.
